Putting America's Soul Live's shows together is always interesting, and I figured that it's time to have some of my favorite pickers let loose and do their thing. It's always thrilling to yell, "Take It!" and see where a song goes, and some of the finest musicians in my little universe will do exactly that on Tuesday, September 15. So...we're gonna jam. Ernie Martinez, Jeff Golden, and Lindsey Brown are mainstays in the Colorado country, rock, bluegrass, and roots scenes, and are each at the top of the pickin' pile! Jeff has long been one of the area's busiest and best guitarists with whipped-cream smooth licks and an amazing repertoire. Lindsey Brown is the area's go-to bassist, and a fine singer, to boot. Of course, Ernie trades licks with the best of 'em, and I can always throw in a little blues harp to spice things up. Plus, a surprise or two may be lurking in the wings. Hope you'll drop by the Foothills Performance Space at Foothills Golf Course on Tuesday to join us for a fine, festive evening. Let's "Take It!" Oh, and make sure to come early for great chow and suds at Foothills Restaurant. See you then.

Hard to believe Labor Day Weekend is coming right up. You need to get your end-of-summer kicks in Colorado's most charming small mountain town, La Veta. I'll be in concert Saturday, September 5, at 7:00 at the La Veta Mercantile, my favorite venue in the land. I have photos tucked away of my ancestors in front of the Mercantile building at the beginning of the last century, and it's always a thrill to imagine I'm walking the same path they did so long ago. So, bid the hot summer goodbye at the La Veta Mercantile next Saturday. The Spanish Peaks will be stunning, the Mercantile's Emile Dubia will treat you great, and I'll do my best to make you glad you came. See you in La Veta!

I'll be making my annual appearance at the La Veta Mercantile in La Veta, CO on Saturday, September 5, and couldn't be happier about it. I love this venue and the folks who attend the shows. Owner Emile Dubia is a music lover and a great host, to boot. She'll treat you like royalty, so spend "Labor Day Saturday" with us in Colorado's coolest small town, La Veta. We'll see you shortly!

We're really looking forward to returning to the Beef, Beans, and Bluegrass Festival stage in downtown Scottsbluff, Nebraska, this Saturday, August 22. Just a hop, skip, jump, and scenic drive from Denver to one of the Midwest's most beautiful areas. Plus, it's the best FREE fair in all the land. I'll be joined by Ernie Martinez and Dana Vernon, with special guest pickin' from Dana's marvelous brother, Rory Vernon. An incredible Saturday lineup, along with good friends the Martin Gilmore Trio and High Plains Tradition, and a headlining show from the Tim O'Brien Band. Join us in Scottsbluff!

Dearest friends: Our scheduled guest for Tuesday, August 18th, America’s Soul Live, Lee Sims, has unfortunately had to reschedule due to an unexpected death in his immediate family. Our hearts and prayers are with Lee as he enters this sad, challenging time. We’ll be glad to have him join us in the next couple of months. In the meantime, I’ve been planning a show highlighting the new songs and stories I’m putting together for two new recordings, and now seems like a great time to present them to you. Rather than a last-minute scramble to find guests, I’d like to spend time with you introducing new songs and the stories behind them. Ernie will present his trademark string wizardry, and we’ll celebrate his upcoming induction into the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame. So, I hope you can drop by, and we’ll present an intimate look into the songwriting process, hopefully introducing you to tunes that will become new favorites. See you on Tuesday! Some great shows are coming up in the next couple of weeks in Westcliffe, Scotts Bluff, Lakewood, and Berthoud! There's something about big Red Barns, and Jon plays his third barn venue in the last month at Janet & Alan Hurley's spectacular Black Dog Blues Barn (BDBB) in Westcliffe, CO, this Saturday evening. Westcliffe is one of Colorado's jewels, of course, and the BDBB was built for live performances. It's a beautiful room, and I can't wait to take the stage once again for this very cool barn/house concert. Here's the scoop from the Hurleys: "Please bring a folding chair and any refreshments you want. In the past, we have enjoyed having people bring light appetizers to share, and you are welcome to do that, but there are no expectations. The doors will open at least an hour before each show, and we encourage people to come early to spend time catching up with friends and neighbors ahead of the show and/or after the show." Hope to see you in Westcliffe this weekend. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Show at 7:00.

It’s time to start thinking about the third Tuesday of August and America’s Soul Live! We’ve had some fantastic shows this year, a streak that continues when Jon and Ernie welcome Colorado Country Music legend Lee Sims to the Foothills Event Venue at Foothills Golf Course on Tuesday, August 18. To his myriad fans, Lee has long been synonymous with country music along Colorado’s Front Range. A recipient of the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award, he combines deep baritone vocals and insightful songwriting, making him a favorite on iconic stages throughout the country, including his long stint with the Platte River Band at the legendary Zanza Bar in Aurora. Hope to see you on the 18th…we’re gonna have a ball. (As usual, come early to check out the great grub and suds at Foothills Restaurant.)
