Casper the friendly ghost. If you know, you know! Please remember to play!

Spotlight: Block Party™ created for PLAY — A Life-Size LEGO®-Inspired Build Zone! 🚀

So this happened…

I was hosting an event for a before- and after-school program when a fourth-grade girl told me she was going to build a ghost.

My immediate thought was, "There is no way!" 😂 These are square and rectangular blocks. How is she going to build a ghost?

I thought it—but I didn't say it.

Instead, I smiled and said,

“Well, anything is possible.”

And wouldn't you know it…

She built the ghost. 👻

Rent-A-Theme GOT TO DO IT AGAIN!!! 💚

Another little patio makeover! 🌿☀️

I tell you, it's harder than you would think to give things away—even when they're FREE! 😂 No one believes you!

But with a little persistence, we had the opportunity to give a little play back to a senior living community in Montbello, and it truly warmed my heart. ❤️

We added a little color, a little fun, and a little invitation to step outside and enjoy the space.

I hope she gets the opportunity to spend lots of time on her patio—to sit in the sunshine, relax, smile, and, of course, PLAY!

Sometimes it doesn't take something huge to make a difference.

A little PLAY goes a long way. 💚

Play Is Free: You Don't Have to Spend a Lot to Experience Its Benefits
One of the things I am most passionate about is helping people understand that play does not have to cost a lot of money.
Actually, some of the best moments of play don't cost anything at all.
A song comes on in the kitchen and suddenly somebody starts dancing.
Dance-off!
You're driving down the road and your favorite song comes on.
Lip-sync contest!
You're watching a football game, but instead of just sitting there, you decide you are officially the sideline encourager. You're cheering, celebrating, calling the plays you know the coach should have called and having entirely too much fun doing it.
That's play.
But play doesn't always have to be loud, silly or energetic.
It can be a quiet walk through a garden.
It can be taking a nature walk and seeing who can find the most interesting leaf.
It can be sitting around the dinner table telling stories.
It can be working on a puzzle.
It can be making up a ridiculous story with your child.
It can be stopping long enough to notice something beautiful, become curious about it and explore.
Playful opportunities are happening around us all the time.
Sometimes we just have to recognize them.
Play Doesn't Require a Toy
I think somewhere along the way, we started associating play with things.
Toys. Games. Equipment. Attractions. Tickets.
But those things aren't play.
They are invitations to play.
Play itself happens within us and between us.
It's the laughter.
The curiosity.
The challenge.
The movement.
The imagination.
The conversation.
The discovery.
The connection.
And sometimes it is simply that wonderful feeling of becoming so engaged in something that, for a little while, we stop thinking about everything else.
That's why I don't want families—or anyone—to believe they need a large entertainment budget to experience play.
You don't.
You can create playful moments with what you already have.
Think About Travel
I like to compare it to transportation.
Technically, I can walk somewhere for free.
And sometimes that's exactly what I want to do. I can enjoy the scenery, get some exercise and experience things along the way that I might have missed otherwise.
But what if I want to get there faster?
I might get in my car.
What if I want to travel hundreds or thousands of miles?
I might get on an airplane.
And sometimes I might decide to go all out—book the beautiful hotel, let someone else handle the details, take the tour and enjoy an experience I probably couldn't have created as easily on my own.
None of that means travel has to be expensive.
It means I've chosen to invest in making the experience easier, faster, different or more immersive.
And that is very similar to how I think about play.
So Where Does Rent-A-Theme Fit In?
This is an important distinction for me.
Rent-A-Theme doesn't make play possible. Play was already possible.
What we do is make it easier to create an environment where play is hard to resist.
Instead of a school, company, senior community or organization trying to figure out:
What should we do?
How do we get people interacting?
What activities will different personalities enjoy?
How do we create something children and adults can both participate in?
Who's going to design it?
Who's going to build it?
Who's going to deliver everything, set it up and take it away?
We do that work.
We bring the invitation to play right to you.
Our immersive and interactive experiences are intentionally designed to spark curiosity, movement, creativity, communication, problem-solving, laughter and connection.
Someone might walk over to one of our giant strategy games because it looks interesting.
Another person starts helping.
Someone else offers an idea.
A conversation begins.
People laugh when their strategy doesn't work.
They try again.
Before long, people who might never have introduced themselves are solving something together.
That's the magic we're trying to make easier to happen.
We're Not Selling Play
This may sound strange coming from someone who owns a play-centered company, but I believe it deeply:
You should never believe that you have to pay someone in order to play.
You don't.
What organizations hire Rent-A-Theme for is the experience, intentionality and convenience surrounding the play.
We have already researched.
Designed.
Built.
Tested.
Transported.
Styled.
And thought about how people will interact with the experience.
We create the environment and remove much of the work required to make it happen.
It's a little like taking the plane instead of walking.
You're still taking the journey. We're simply helping you get there differently.
Start Where You Are
So here's my challenge for you this week:
Don't buy anything.
Don't schedule anything.
Don't add another thing to your already-full calendar.
Just start looking for playful opportunities.
When the music comes on, dance.
When somebody makes a ridiculous comment, laugh.
When you're outside, look for something you've never noticed before.
Challenge someone to a race.
Make up a game.
Take a garden walk.
Build something.
Tell a story.
Cheer ridiculously loudly at the football game.
Turn an ordinary moment into something just a little unexpected.
Because play doesn't always need an elaborate setup.
Sometimes it only needs an invitation.
And when you want to take that experience to another level—to make it bigger, easier, more immersive and intentionally designed to bring people together—that's where Rent-A-Theme comes in.
But never forget:
Play was yours all along.
Keep playing. Keep connecting. Keep creating moments that matter.

How's your week going, friends?

More importantly...have you found time to play?

Not just because it's fun, but because your body, your brain, and even your soul need it.

There are days when I look at the world and wonder, "What is happening?" Then I get to spend time watching people play together, and I'm reminded that hope is still everywhere.

Over the past few weeks, we've had the privilege of creating play experiences for schools, senior communities, churches, businesses, and families. We watched strangers become teammates, coworkers become friends, grandparents laugh with grandchildren, and conversations begin that might never have happened otherwise.

That's why I love what we do.

When we design a play experience, we're not simply trying to make something look beautiful or entertain a crowd. Every detail is intentional. We create environments where people of all ages can connect, laugh, think, create, share stories, solve challenges, and simply enjoy being together.

Play has an incredible way of breaking down barriers. It invites conversation. It sparks curiosity. It builds confidence. It encourages creativity. Most importantly, it reminds us that we have far more in common than what divides us.

The science is clear—play isn't just something children need. It's something we all need.

So wherever you are this week, I hope you find a little time to laugh, to wonder, to create, and to play.

Because sometimes the simplest moments of play become the moments we remember most.

The Timeless Joy of Board Games

There's something magical about gathering around a table, putting away our phones, and simply playing together.

Did you know some of our favorite strategy games have been challenging minds for centuries?

Mancala is believed to be one of the oldest games in the world, with origins dating back more than 3,000 years in Africa and the Middle East. Often called the "seed-sowing game," it teaches players to think ahead, recognize patterns, and develop strategic thinking—all while having fun.

The Tower of Hanoi puzzle was introduced in 1883 by French mathematician Édouard Lucas. While it looks simple, it challenges players to think logically, plan ahead, and solve problems one move at a time. In fact, computer scientists still use it today to teach recursion and algorithmic thinking!

Whether you're playing an ancient strategy game, solving a puzzle, or enjoying a favorite family board game, you're doing much more than passing the time.

You're building:
🧠 Critical thinking
🤝 Communication
💡 Creativity
❤️ Patience and resilience
😊 Meaningful connections

At Rent-A-Theme Entertainment, we believe play is one of the most powerful ways we learn, connect, and grow.

So here's our friendly reminder...

Take time to play this week. Pull out a board game, challenge a friend, invite your family to the table, and create a few memories together.

After all, the best moves aren't always made on the game board—they're the moments we share with the people around us.

Mini golf becomes a whole new adventure when you add a theme!
No two designs are ever the same—each course is custom created with its own unique story, scenery, and immersive atmosphere. One of our favorites celebrated Colorado's 150th Birthday, and our team had an incredible time bringing it to life!

The best part? Our themed mini golf experiences are incredibly versatile. Whether set up in a courtyard, backyard, gymnasium, cafeteria, or even down a hallway, we transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences that spark curiosity, encourage connection, inspire laughter, and create unforgettable memories for guests of all ages.

This is truly the way I play and it brings joy to my day! So the is a little PSA- Please remember to PLAY!

Step Right Up and Enjoy the PLAY!

One of the things I love most about our carnival experience is that it's completely set up for you. From the games and decorations to the props and prizes, everything is included for one simple price.

You get all the sights, excitement, and immersive fun of a professionally staged carnival, while our team handles the work so your team can relax, enjoy the celebration, and focus on your guests.

Another thing I love is that we are always looking for ways to make the experience even better. Clean and fresh games. Every year we add new details, refine the presentation, and find new ways to create more smiles, more laughter, and more memorable moments.

🎪 Under the Big Top – Step Right up to the Celebration
Laughter fills the air as campers move from one exciting station to the next in a vibrant carnival atmosphere designed to spark joy, curiosity, and celebration.
Coordinated tablescapes, whimsical signage, and professional carnival games transform an ordinary space into a colorful world of fun-filled challenges, excitement, and shared experiences. Every game offers a chance to smile, cheer, and celebrate success while creating memories that campers will talk about long after the day is over.
Why It Works:
• Quick-win games build confidence
• Rotation structure keeps attention high
• Visual stimulation increases engagement
• Celebration energy reinforces positive association with group participation
It's bright, welcoming, and filled with positive energy—making it the perfect theme day, special celebration, or grand-finale event.

Thank you for allowing us to keep creating immersive carnivals filled with happiness, laughter, and PLAY. And please remember to find time to play each day!

We did it again — what an honor to create a midway-inspired immersive carnival experience designed to share smiles, ignite happiness, spark laughter, and create unforgettable memories for the community.

From the smell of fresh warm popcorn to challenging toss games, playful competition, colorful sights, and photo-worthy moments, experiences like these remind us that play has a powerful way of bringing people together.

What may look like “just fun” is actually something much deeper. Through the science of play, we create opportunities for people to connect, communicate, laugh, and engage with one another in meaningful ways.

Play helps activate dopamine and serotonin — chemicals connected to joy, motivation, and emotional well-being — while oxytocin, often called the “bonding hormone,” helps strengthen feelings of trust, connection, and belonging during shared experiences.

Play also supports executive function skills through problem-solving, decision-making, creativity, communication, focus, and adaptability. At the same time, playful and emotionally safe environments can help calm the amygdala — the part of the brain connected to stress, fear, and emotional responses — allowing people to feel more relaxed, open, connected, and engaged.

In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, moments like these matter. They help neighbors become friends, families create memories, coworkers connect, and communities grow stronger together.

Not all play is created equal. Sometimes a simple game, a shared laugh, or a playful challenge can open the door to human connection in ways words alone cannot.

We are truly honored to help create experiences where fun, wonder, laughter, and meaningful connection come alive together. ❤️

You covered this beautifully. The only thing you could add — if you want even more emotional impact — is a short line about all ages coming together, because that is one of the strongest visual powers of carnival-style play. Something like:

“One of the most beautiful parts of the experience was watching children, teens, parents, grandparents, friends, and neighbors laughing and playing side by side.”

P.S. The people in the photos are AI-generated to help protect the privacy of those who attended — but the fun, laughter, smiles, and joyful moments were absolutely real.

It’s pretty incredible what technology can do with photos today, and we’re grateful to use it in a way that helps us celebrate the experience while still respecting the privacy of our guests.!

It is so hard to truly give something away. Why? We would like to bless someone. Play is important for every age!
