Stock Show Through the Decades: 1976–1986
The late '70s and early '80s were a decade of transformation for the National Western Stock Show. As agriculture evolved, so did the Stock Show by expanding facilities to welcome new breeds, new events, and laying the groundwork for the youth-focused programs that continue today.
🏗️ In 1973, visitors experienced the newly expanded grounds, including the Hall of Education, which provided much-needed space for exhibits, livestock, and year-round programming that was expanded on until its completion in 1989 with the East wing.
🐂 Even more new cattle breeds from around the world began appearing in Denver with the expansion of the stockyards, reflecting the changing landscape of the livestock industry and bringing fresh opportunities for producers and exhibitors.
🌎 In 1982, the National Western Scholarship Fund was created along with the Citizen of the West dinner, both of which are integral parts of the Stock Show today.
From new facilities and international connections to expanded horse and livestock programming, the decade from 1976–1986 helped shape the modern National Western Stock Show we know today.
