“On your left!” — You, on this section of the S. Platte River Trail probably

This section is finally reopening after construction to rebuild the failing roadside retaining wall!

The next phase will widen the trail and build a new riverside wall. Doesn’t it look so much better already? You can’t possibly get mad at this. 😉

Thank you to our incredible volunteers! 🙌

On 8/22, volunteers came out to Ruth Dreiling Park along Weir Gulch, near Alameda and Sheridan, to help clean up our open spaces and trails. Councilwoman Jamie Torres joined us, along with our partners at Polar Planet, who pull thousands of pounds of trash out of our waterways every year.

While our dedicated DPR employees work hard to keep these spaces clean year round, volunteers like you make an even bigger impact.

Mark your calendar! Saluting Branches 2026 is Wednesday, September 16.

Arborists and tree care professionals will spend the day caring for trees and landscapes at Fort Logan National Cemetery, honoring the veterans laid to rest there. Volunteers get full training, and no experience is needed, just a willingness to give back.

Help Shape the Future of MY Denver Card!

The Office of Children's Affairs wants to hear from Denver youth and families. Share your feedback through our survey to help inform future programs, benefits, and opportunities available through MY Denver Card.

The MY Denver Card is a free resource that gives children ages 5-18 access to recreation centers, libraries, pools, and other activities across the city. Whether you or your children currently use the card or not, your answers to this short survey will shape changes that make the MY Denver Card easier to use and provide wider benefits.

We had a beary unexpected visitor this week! 🐻

Meet our approximately 18-month-old male bear, who wandered into the city, likely following a river in search of food. Wildlife biologists were able to age him by his dentition, tooth wear, and body condition!

This time of year, bears are deep in hyperphagia, basically bear season for non-stop eating. This guy wandered straight into the neighborhood of our Executive Director, Jolon Clark, where he ended up perched in a tree at his daughter’s friend’s home in Platt Park!

Wildlife officers responded quickly, safely tranquilized the bear, and relocated him to a State Wildlife Area in southern Douglas County, a much better fit with plenty of food, water, and shelter waiting for him.

Big shoutout to Wildlife Officers Casey Westbrook, Travis Harris, Sean Dodd, Wayne Soong, and Matt Martinez for making it happen.

We’ve been hitting our water goals, all while prioritizing our tree canopy!

During the drought, we’ve partnered with Denver Water to reduce irrigation water use by 20%.

Water conservation strategies vary from park to park and golf course to golf course, depending on infrastructure, community use, and existing conditions. One key strategy: limiting potable water use in parks and using raw or recycled water systems where available.

Click the link in bio to see which parks use recycled water 💦
