is coming to Denver THIS FRIDAY !! Croatian Roots, American Problems is a standup show brought to you by Stanko Zovak and George Dulcich. Stanko is a Los Angeles comedian who once quit his job, moved to Croatia, and spent three years learning the language just to understand his family better. (It only made them seem crazier.) He’s back in LA performing standup all over the country, running the hit series Last Band Standing, and hosting the All Things Croatia Podcast. George is a Croatian American comedian from Los Angeles. He’s 75% Dalmatinac and 25% Hercegovac which means he’ll 100% have a drink with you after the show! George’s comedy blends elements of self-mockery, family dynamics and cultural mishaps. George has performed all over the United States as well as Croatia.

Whether you’re a seasoned killer or an up-and-coming comic ready for a bigger stage, this is your shot to perform as part of the Rise Comedy festival weekend alongside incredible comedians from all over.

Scene Study focuses on group scene work, centered on a contemporary play. The class will include a table read of the script, followed by individual scene assignments in which actors will develop skills including script work, blocking, moment-to-moment acting work and rehearsal technique. This class culminates in a final showcase performance of the rehearsed scenes.

Actors should be prepared to work in small groups with optional outside rehearsal.

instructor: Jessica Austgen is an award-winning actor and improviser who realized that doing improv made her acting better, and acting experience made her improv better. Neat!

Jess performs at Rise Comedy with The King Penny Radio Show, an improvised 1940’s radio drama. She’s the one in the blonde wig, Vera VonDunk. You may have also seen her onstage as Renfield in Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really at the Arvada Center or in David Byrne’s Theater of the Mind at the DCPA.

Teaching work includes DCPA, Denver School of the Arts, University of Denver, Camp Improv Utopia, Denver Improv Festival, University of Northern Colorado, University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado Thespian Convention.

Awards: Colorado Theater Person of the Year 2018 (True West Awards), Best Actress in a Comedy (Westword, Best of Denver 2003, 2012), Best Supporting Actress in a Play (Marlowe Awards 2015, 2019), Best Ensemble (Henry Award, 2017)
