Jessica Eckenrod is brand new to Firehouse. As she prepares to make her debut in THE CAKE, we asked her to share some thoughts about the play.
1. What drew you to this script? What is special about it?
"'The Cake' follows four people who are inherently good, but struggle to make space for other perspectives different from their own. It's a reminder that change is uncomfortable, but shouldn't necessarily be something we immediately fear. Also, a welcomed reminder that it's easy to draw hard lines, but look at what happens if we listen instead."

2. What are you appreciating about your character?
"I appreciate that Macy knows exactly who she is. She fought hard to get to this point in her life, and there's a freedom that comes with finally knowing yourself."

3. Why should audiences see this play?
"I think it's important to have values, but I also think our values could - and should - change. That's not easy to navigate. This play offers a snapshot of people wrestling change, love, and identify in a way that's deeply human. It's easy to see a little bit of ourselves in one (or all) of these characters' struggles, and feel less alone."
