BREAKING🚨🏳️🌈 Atlanta police JAILED the co-owner of one of the country's last le***an bars over a noise complaint — an offense that normally gets you a citation.
The report by the arresting officer, Jayden Joseph, says he was responding to a city noise ordinance violation at My Sister's Room, the Midtown le***an bar that has been open since 1996. "I would like to note for the record I did not hear or witness any loud music coming from either establishment," he wrote. What he did note was the bar's garage door open, with patrons inside "projecting their voices loudly."
Video posted to the bar's Instagram on August 16 shows officers cuffing co-owner Jen-Chase Daniels in front of a crowd on the sidewalk. "Just so we're clear, we were not over capacity," she says. Then, to a bystander: "Take my phone and call my wife."
About 20 minutes before that, Daniels had filmed a different bar on the same street, Blackjack, with its outdoor speakers still playing while it was closed. "So we just want to document that their speakers are on and they are closed after hours," she says in the video. Earlier this month she had set up a meeting between an APD captain and lieutenant and the Crescent Avenue businesses, where they physically walked out the 100-foot line the ordinance uses. Atlanta no longer measures with decibel readings.
Daniels wrote that officers asked for her ID. "The officer already knew who I was," she wrote, adding she offered to show the footage proving the sound wasn't hers.
She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital first, because police said that's protocol for anyone with an implanted heart monitor. She says she asked repeatedly for her family to be told where she was, and they weren't. From Grady she was transferred to jail, and a friend, Melissa Scott, spent the night tracking her down and bailing her out.
