There are seemingly endless bedroom studios and producers who eagerly offer super cheap rates, some even with some decent equipment. Yet the process isn't always the smoothest, and the recording space is almost always less than ideal, both creatively and sonically. Though produced and recorded with much enthusiasm (hopefully), the end product is typically sub par to the creative intent of the arti
st or band in comparison to recordings that inspired them. This is due to many factors including experience of the engineer/producer, the recording and control room space(s) itself, and the gear being used. Just because someone bought a bunch of high end gear doesn't mean that their recordings will sound like commercial records. Just because I buy the best nail gun doesn't mean I have the skills to build a house. On the flip side you have the ultra high end studio with all the perfect gear and sound, and an engineer/producer with lots of experience and usually with the attitude and ego to match. The problem is with the money it takes to sustain such and endeavor puts stress and creative tension into the process for all but the most well off clients and limits creative experimentation in the studio resulting in half finished projects or formulaic over produced records that aren't a true representation of the band or artist's sound and/or vision. This includes projects backed by labels and investors. The recording and business models of yesterday are quickly falling apart under the arising new music business paradigms. An an engineer/producer I offer the balance of years of experience in the process of recording and producing many styles of music, which in itself is a valuable asset that aides in spending money wisely ( the most important factor in the business success of a recording project ). Coupled with professional equipment in a REAL recording space, and musical ears that strive for the best sound possible, my skills and services are an asset to anyone looking to record music. I charge realistic prices that put a positive recording experience and great sound and vibe in the hands of independent artists and labels (with ever shrinking budgets) alike. My goal is service and my attitude is one that matches; happily striving to meet the sound, creative, and business needs of my clients, while honoring the art that they create. Feel free to contact me to talk about possibilities for your project.
