Opening reception of .legg_art 's solo "pieces" last Saturday . Strong and well-curated collection of new and older works from an artist whose art we see far too little of. Pairing up with Leon is a good move and hopefully leads to many more eyes on his witty, dedicated, and meticulous work. Definitely worth checking out. On view through Aug. 6.

Open studio with this past Saturday . After a fruitful March residency in France, Moe spent the month of May evaluating her new work as part of a residency at Denver's FOAF. Moe came back with new textures, photographic elements, and a more focused aesthetic, augmenting and refining her usual maximalist approach. Look forward to more from this beaming talent at the upcoming One Sheet show later this year.

Matt Tripodi/Robert Notva "Herding Cats" pop-up on display at Oct. 2 - 9. Ridiculous, clever, confident, and fun. Big paintings in a small space work surprisingly well. Also, there's a crazy and convoluted story behind this body of work worth hearing. Hit up and get it.

Netia Shel Simcha - A joyous planting

Fine curation by Max Kauffman brings together a sculpture-heavy mix at Urban Mud in South Denver this July. Making reference to the Jewish tradition of planting a tree for special events, the show is inviting, vivid, and tactile. Tom Bond and Christi Palitto shine with works that balance clean contemporary design with natural forms and materials. Always a lover of line, Kauffman brings in mysterious new work by Ryan Riss (worth seeing in person along with the rest of the group). Reconnect with nature and a new season of growth First Friday July 2 6 - 9 PM.

Charles Livingston: Next to Art Pirate: Contemporary Art

An obsessive compulsive photographic survey of 14 or so years of art shows and the viewers at them that questions what art is and who makes it. Hint hint, it's not just the artists. For those that frequent such events, the gargantuan collection on display reads like a long session flipping through family albums. Even the art and people you don't know feel familiar, giving you a sense that this is less a show about art and more about community. Livingston intersperses quotes and chunks of art-related prose amongst the sea of forms and faces, providing points to ponder, though the meta quality of viewing an art show about people viewing art shows is enough a morsel to chew on. Thoughtful, vast in scope, and open-ended, Next To Art is another worthy project from one of Denver's most patient artists.
On view through May 2.
