2026 marks the beginning of a fresh chapter for Dikeou Collection in a new location where we will reintroduce the work from our permanent collection comprised of over 45 international contemporary artists, as well as many new names and acquisitions. In preparation for this move, Dikeou Collection, 1615 California St, will close to the public on January 30, 2026 until further notice. Appointments to visit the collection through Jan. 30 can be scheduled on our website.

While these new developments are underway, you can see a selection of Dikeou Collection artwork at Hudson’s Bay, 1600 Stout St, a downtown office building where productivity and creativity meet in the heart of 16th Street. Works by Margaret Lee, Chris Gilmour, Devon Dikeou, Rainer Ganahl, and Sebastiaan Bremer are on view in the public lobby area, providing opportunity for unique encounters with art that break from the norm. Dikeou Pop-Up: Colfax, 312 E Colfax Ave, is also open by appointment. Contact [email protected] for scheduling options.

And with these transitions we are pleased to share that the hugely successful Colorado Building Artist Studios program will continue at its new location at the Independence Building on 14th and Tremont. We look forward to expanding our creative community with artist studios, communal spaces, an artist-run gallery, and seeing Denver artists flourish in this building. For more information about the Independence Building, visit dikeouartstudios.com.

The remarkable history of Dikeou Collection—its past, present, and future—is all thanks to our amazing audiences, friends, and collaborators who have shown up and supported us in innumerable ways over the past two decades. We hope to spread the love . . . and the art . . . for many more to come.

The American Penny, One Cent (1793-2025)

"It’s almost never there now . . . much of coin, cash, scratch, moola, flow. It seems antiquated, gone. But there used to be whole dishes/containers designed for men with valets to empty their pockets into, leaving the days’ change liberated, until dress began again the next day. I loved these recepticles, and my father’s was open season, for the taking . . . It was called “the tray”, and he had lots of it—petty cash—and it never seemed empty . . . It was my segue to candy heaven. Hope it’s not empty, or in between changes.”

“Somehow I Dont’t Feel Comfortable,” Momoyo Torimitsu 🐇

This piece was shown in 2012 at Artpace in collaboration with the Dikeou Collection as part of the Hudson Showroom exhibition 𝙎𝙬𝙖𝙥 𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩.

Originally created in 2000 by Momoyo Torimitsu, these inflatable rabbits were first conceived to fit tightly into a gallery in Paris—crammed from floor to ceiling—creating a sense of unease through their overwhelming scale within an enclosed space. At Artpace, our conference room provided the perfect setting for these two-story-tall bunnies.

“The focus of this piece is cuteness, especially its definition in Japan,” Torimitsu wrote. “A bunny is one of the stereotyped images of cuteness: an innocent, pure, small something that should be protected… This oversized bunny I created that looks down on you doesn’t seem cute anymore—it’s kind of disturbing.” She also connected the work to Japan’s dense urban housing, often referred to as “rabbit hutches,” a term coined by a French diplomat in the 1970s to describe cramped living conditions in Tokyo. “I wanted to visually illustrate Japan’s repressed lifestyle with my cute but cramped creatures.”

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, Walter Robinson. As an artist, writer, critic, and constant presence in the art world, his presence will be sorely missed by many. We are so grateful for his years of support of the collection since its very inception, and incredibly honored to represent a robust yet aptly serene and calming selection of his work among our family of “DQ Artists.” Our thoughts and our hearts are with his family, loved ones, and the many artists and friends whose lives he touched.

Dikeou Collection, in collaboration with the Archives of American Art | Smithsonian Institution, is delighted to celebrate Leo Tanguma, a Chicano muralist who has reshaped public art in Colorado, Texas, and beyond. In a new episode of the podcast Articulated: Dispatches from the Archives of American Art, Leo Tanguma: Great Humanity, Tanguma describes more than seven decades of painting for and with the community, and the Archives and Dikeou Collection are teaming up to toast his ever-growing legacy.

Please join us in welcoming Leo Tanguma and his collaborator & partner Jeanne Stanford Tanguma for an in-person podcast listening event with a casual follow-up conversation with Ben Gillespie, oral historian at the Archives and producer of Articulated. Enjoy light refreshments and warm company on a winter night in Denver. This event is free and open to the public.

Articulated is sponsored by Next50, the Denver based national foundation that works towards creating a world that values aging.

What started as one visitor’s spontaneous piggy doodle on a paper plate in Devon Dikeou’s “One Little Piggy Ate Roast Beef, One Little Piggy Had None” (1991 Ongoing) performance installation is now an ever-growing participant-driven initiative of sketches and musings about pigs, food, consumption, the service industry, pop culture, semiotics, and audience response. Dikeou’s work has a deep history of collaboration with fellow artists and art viewers alike, and this unprompted drawing series is very much in line with the openness Dikeou imbues in her practice.
