Don't miss Metamorphosis, our final show of the season!

At the heart of this program is Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber by Paul Hindemith—a thrilling showcase of musical transformation. Carl Maria von Weber, a Romantic-era composer, wrote the original themes. Hindemith reimagined them in 1943 after leaving N**i Germany and settling in the U.S., where he taught at Yale.

In a fascinating twist, the source material wasn’t one of Weber’s well-known works, but a relatively obscure piano duet for four hands—transformed by Hindemith into something bold, colorful, and entirely new.

That spirit of “metamorphosis” extends across the entire program. Nearly every piece you’ll hear is a transcription—music transformed from its original form into the vibrant sound world of wind ensemble.

We’re excited to feature one of our own, Neil Guy, as soloist on the Harvest Concerto by John Mackey at our show tomorrow night!

The Harvest Concerto is a bold and challenging showpiece for trombone — dramatic, exciting, and very cool. Inspired by the myths of Dionysus, it pushes the soloist to the limit and showcases the full power and range of the instrument.

Neil is a native of Aurora and is in his 23rd year at Cherokee Trail High School, where he serves as Director of Bands and Performing Arts Coordinator. An accomplished trombonist, he performs regularly with ensembles throughout the Denver metro area.

We’re proud to have him take the stage for this incredible work. Don’t miss it on February 28!

This weekend's show is full of epic tales and historic legends, including Michael Daugherty's "The Adventures of Jesse Owens." This piece captures the life of Olympic gold medalist Jesse Owens and his famous victory at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

Movement I - Cotton
Jesse Owens (1913-1980) was the youngest of ten children and the son of a sharecropper and grandson of enslaved people. His family lived in a small shack in rural Oakville, Alabama and picked cotton for a living. At the age of seven, Jesse was picking upwards of 100 pounds of cotton a day.

Movement II - Berlin (1936 Olympics)
Jesse Owens was invited to join the United States Olympic track and field team for the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany. The German N**i Party hoped that hosting the Olympic Games would provide an international showcase for the Third Reich and give legitimacy to its racist policies of A***n supremacy. Participation of American Jewish and Black athletes in the Olympic Games caused controversy.

Movement III - Gold
By winning four gold medals in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter relay, and long jump, Jesse Owens achieved worldwide fame and became the most successful athlete at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. International headlines proclaimed Jesse Owens as "the fastest man in the world."

Hear this moving piece on February 28th! Link to tickets in our bio and on our website.
