It brings us great sadness to learn of the passing of one of Denvers best and passionate art supporters and local art collectors, Michael Smith. Michael Smith
Michael was an incredible and present supporter of so many art institutions, individuals and all manner of small and large art gallery and collective.
A collector for over 40 years, Mike loved to support artists on the rise, and local artists more than any. 100s of local artists can say Mike was a collector of their work.
His involvement with the arts didn’t stop there, Mike gladly donated his time to countless arts organizations, museums and galleries… gallery sitting, chairing committees, legal advising, fundraising and more.
He was incredibly generous to us at by helping us navigate the legal landscape of leasing our space, watching the gallery, in supporting our charity events, both in donation by purchasing art, but also simply helping setup, wrap art, or clean after. He was a mentor to us and many and most importantly a good friend.
Mike grew up in Craig Colorado, was an accomplished and incredibly respected lawyer of University of Denver and Harvard education, liaison for the fraternal organizations to CU, a devoted person of faith, and so much more.
He will be sorely missed by the art community and those that had the pleasure of being in the presence of his sharp wit and bold character.
Rest in peace!
Our hearts weep, we love you Michael.
