It is with heavy hearts that the Alliance Française de Denver shares the news of the passing of Frieda Sanidas Leason, a woman whose life embodied the deep and enduring friendship between France and Colorado.
From 1987 to 2006, Frieda served as Honorary Consul of France in Denver, a role she carried with grace and distinction through some of the most significant diplomatic moments in our region's history, including the Papal visit for World Youth Day in 1993 and the G7 Summit of 1997. Her vision also gave rise to the Rocky Mountain French-American Chamber of Commerce, strengthening the economic and cultural ties between our two nations for generations to come.
Yet Frieda's gifts extended far beyond diplomacy. As a producer, director, and actor with l'Alliance & Co, the theatre arm of the Alliance Française de Denver, she brought French language and culture to life on stage, sharing her passion for the arts with our community with characteristic warmth and energy.
In September 2006, France recognized Frieda's extraordinary service by naming her Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, the nation's highest honor, in tribute to a lifetime dedicated to building bridges between cultures.
Frieda leaves behind a legacy woven into the very fabric of our organization and our city. Her tireless work, artistic spirit, and generous heart touched countless lives across the French community in Denver and beyond. We are profoundly grateful for all she gave us, and she will be deeply missed.
