Revival of The Bonfils Girl by Mike Broemmel Tells the Story of Denver Legend Helen Bonfils

"Helen Bonfils is a little more well-known than she was ten years ago, but I hope this broadens people's understanding of who she was and even excites them," says Mike Broemmel, author of The Bonfils Girl.

Between 2014 and 2016, Mike Broemmel devoted a great part of my time researching and then writing about actor and inventor Hedy Lamarr. A result of those efforts is a play entitled Stand Still & Look Stupid: Life Story of Hedy Lamarr.

Since the premiere of the play, Mike received numerous requests to facilitate lectures and discussions about Hedy Lamarr. On March 11, 2024, Mike will host a lecture and discussion about the women who fairly can be called the “Mother of WiFi,” but also a brilliant scientist whose efforts contribute mightily to making the digital communications age possible. The gathering starts at 9 pm Eastern Standerd Time, 7 pm Mountain Standard Time

A portion of the proceeds go to funding bringing the play about Hedy Lamarr to schools. Hedy provides a true inspiration, particularly to girls and young women pursuing STEM.

Ark Valley Voice

A new play by Denver-based playwright Mike Broemmel, titled The Wind Is Us: The Death that Killed Capote, will run for two nights only at Box of Bubbles at 7:30 p.m. tonight, October 12 and again on 13, 2023.

The Wind is Us stars Eddie Schumacher as Truman Capote, the acclaimed author of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and other stories of New York society. He first burst onto the American literary scene with a very different kind of book: In Cold Blood, the “nonfiction novel” that helped spur the “true crime” genre.

The Wind Is Us: The Death that Killed Capote chronicles the life of author Truman Capote from his days researching his iconic “non-fiction novel” In Cold Blood until his death in 1984. Get an early look at A Destination of My Own: The Story of Richard Durham ... the latest play from Colorado TINTS. Starring TGKAFG as Richard Durham, A Destination of My Own is a full-length, one-actor play chronicling the life of Richard Durham.

The play is written by Mike Broemmel with Jennifer Dempsey as the producer and script consultant.

Richard Durham was the creator and writer of Destination Freedom, a weekly radio drama that aired for two years in the 1940s. The radio serial dramatized the lives of important Black American historical figures and is described as “nothing ever before heard on radio.” The radio program strove to defeat commonplace stereotypes routinely attached to Black Americans. In many ways, Richard Durham’s work has been described as an important precursor to the Civil Rights and Black Lives Matter movements.

Join us for a preview and a behind the scenes look at this important new play by joining us at an open rehearsal on May 19, 2023.

Tickets are only $8 with proceeds going to help stage the premiere performances of the play in honor of Juneteenth in the Denver-Aurora Metro area. Reserve your tickets today because space is limited:
