Last Walk

I painted this from a photo I had taken of our black lab Theo. It was a Christmas gift for my wife. Theo developed lung cancer and had passed away that spring. I took him for walks every day over to Standley Lake in Westminster, his favorite place to go.

Lone Wanderer

While traveling through Yellowstone, I saw a lone buffalo walking along the roadside and couldn't help but take his photo. Down the road in the direction he was heading, there was a larger herd in a massive valley. It made me imagine where he was coming from alone, and his natural instinct to find his collective herd. This was my first up-close experience with a buffalo, which I safely viewed from inside my car.

My heritage is Cherokee, and I deeply love the culture, natural experiences, and the beauty of animals in their natural habitats. I try to capture nature and teach myself how to paint and sketch. I have no formal training or education in art, but I learn through videos and reading, creating based purely on curiosity and a passion for nature.

I hope you enjoy this piece, titled "Lone Wanderer," and take a moment to imagine where he is going and what he is searching for.

The Pyrocene

The Black Tiger fire, the most destructive in Colorado at that time, came within yards of our house. The Volunteer Fire Department saved the day!
When we moved, my husband pointed to where the Cold Springs fire started. If a fire starts there, it will take out this house. The wind changed; we were spared.
Writing this still gives me chills. It's hard to imagine the roar and ferocity of a wildfire!

James Hong

Another inclusion into my series of pencil drawings of iconic (and favorite) actors. This one is of James Hong and all his movie roles. From his early roles in "Chinatown" and "Airplane" to his more recent work in "Everything Everywhere All At Once", at 97 years old, James continues to work and be active in the movies.

Gromit in heaven

Gromit was a foster fail who helped many other foster dogs on their way to a new life. He demonstrated life could be kind and to try and trust again.
His favorite play dates were at Union Reservoir, retrieving tennis balls in the water.
The day before Memorial Day in 2018, he started fading fast, a rush to the emergency vet showed the cause, cancer on his heart. He died just after midnight, so it would be impossible for me to forget him. He was 4years old.
