St Barbara is a Catholic Saint know for her preforming of
miracles. Her feast is on December 4th. The Vatican has
since taken her from the list of official Saints because of
her lack of historical evidence, however that has not
stopped her from being beloved by people for centuries.
Her story goes that because of her beauty her father
locked her away in a tower. She somehow found a way to
convert to Christianity and had three windows put in her
private bathhouse to symbolize the Trinity. When her
pagan father discovered his daughter's conversion he beat
her mercilessly but immediately Angels came and healed
her wounds enraging her father. To punish her he ordered
her to be put to death but through divine intervention she
escaped, her father perused her but before he could catch
her angels or in some stories Jesus himself placed a huge
mountain or hill between her and her father. There Barbara
hid in a cave. Two shepherds found her and she begged
them not to betray her. One sadly did and her father came
and sliced her head off with his sword making her a martyr.
The heavens in anger thundered and lightning stuck her
father and the shepherd making them explode and
combust in flames. The other shepherd died of fright. St.
Barbara is known as patron Saint of lightning, storms,
explosions, fire, tunnels, caves, healing wounds, healing
water, battles, victory and coming to the aid of the
distressed and helpless. She is one of the 14 Holy Helpers
(saints) who are said to be quickest to act in the aid of
humans and preforming impossible miracles. She is
beloved still in many parts of the world still especially in
South America, Central America, as well as Central and
Eastern Europe.
