For the last 34 years, the Denver Witches' Ball has taken many forms.
Venues have changed. Faces have changed. Generations have come and gone. Even the people entrusted with carrying the Ball forward have changed.
Through it all, autumn returns, the Wheel turns, and Colorado's magical community gathers again.
Our history doesn't live in one perfect archive. It survives in old photographs and newspaper stories, in flyers tucked away from years past, and in the memories of the people who have gathered with us.
In 2005, The Denver Post wrote about the Denver Witches' Ball and Jacqueline Weller, who organized the annual gathering at the time. The article described a Ball drawing approximately 900 people for an evening of drumming, psychic readers, magical merchants, and community.
By 2018, the 27th Annual Denver Witches' Ball was gathering at the Highlands Masonic Center, continuing the tradition of a free Samhain ritual at midnight.
After a break in 2021, Covenant of the River began carrying the Ball forward in 2022.
Last year, we began another chapter as the Ball found its current home at the Denver Marriott Westminster.
These are only a handful of moments from a much larger story.
Some of you were there.
You danced in these rooms. You wandered the marketplace. You gathered for ritual. You brought your children, met new friends, returned with old ones, and helped make the Denver Witches' Ball what it is today.
And we know pieces of that history are still out there.
