L2: Modern Dance Project My initial interest in the Horton technique was in middle school. While taking his class I started to include the Horton exercises within my own curriculum.

“I am sincerely trying to create a dance technique based upon corrective exercises, created with a knowledge of human anatomy; a technique which will correct physical faults and prepare a dancer for any type of dancing." -Lester Horton One of my dance instructors gave us a master class that left me more sore than any other class I had taken and in all the right places. I was then blessed in colleg

e to study under John Parks who was trained by and performed with Alvin Ailey. I find this style particularly fascinating for multiple reasons. The anatomical approach to movement not only makes sense, but it also provides a safe way to strengthen a dancer. This technique is also accessible and beneficial to non-dancers as well. I know that when I was taking this class regularly, I was in the best shape of my life. I felt strong, I felt long and I felt my movements in an entirely different way!
