Today we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

As we reflect on this important chapter in our nation's history, we also recognize the countless contributions of Black artists, educators, leaders, and community members who continue to shape our culture and inspire meaningful change.

The Greater Denton Arts Council believes the arts have the power to foster understanding, amplify diverse voices, and bring communities together. We celebrate Juneteenth by honoring the stories, creativity, and enduring legacy of Black Americans.

ARTS & LIFE: Video Art Night illuminates Quakerton Park for an evening of time-based visuals

Towering, large blank walls appeared around Quakertown Park on June 12. However, as the sun began to set, the walls that seemingly hosted nothing were then illuminated by spectacular projected displays of art for all to see.

The radiating colors lighting up Quakertown Park were brought to Denton by AURORA, a public arts organization that curates nights like its Video Art Night. VAN, among other public museum nights, are normally hosted in Dallas. The 10 art pieces that were hosted in Quakerton are part of a new initiative to bring VAN to cities surrounding Dallas, with Denton being the first.

“We noticed that there was something missing, like an event that was for the artists of our time,” said Corey Moulton, production and administrative manager at AURORA and university alum. “There was nothing like that in the city of Dallas, we only had the state fair, and that's pretty much it. �But nothing that would draw, that was capable of drawing people for the sake of the art, to celebrate the artists of our time. So we did it with a $200 budget at that time and brought in several artists.”

We are thrilled to have Lisa Reindorf's solo exhibition on display in our Festival Hall gallery, open until June 27, 2026. Lisa's work has inspired all ages and has paired beautifully with a variety of community events, weddings and our annual summer camp through the work's vibrant colors and exuberant energy. 🌸✨

WOW! 🤩🎉

Thank you to everyone who came out for Video Art Night this past Friday - it was a smashing success! Seeing so many people engaging with one another through music and art was beautiful, and we can't WAIT to do it again next year ✨. Sharing the area with Pridenton made it even more fun!
