🏀 Did You Know? Basketball Was Invented at the YMCA! 🏀
Few people realize that one of the world's most popular sports got its start at the YMCA.

In 1891, YMCA instructor Dr. James Naismith was challenged to create an indoor activity that would keep students active during the winter months. Working at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts, now known as Springfield College, he developed a new game that emphasized teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship.

Using a soccer ball and a peach basket mounted above the gym floor, Naismith introduced a game unlike any other at the time. What began as a simple activity in a YMCA gymnasium quickly spread through YMCA locations across the country and eventually around the world.

Today, basketball is played by millions of people of all ages and backgrounds, and Springfield College is proudly recognized as the birthplace of basketball.
The YMCA continues to honor its connection to the game by providing basketball
programs that help participants build confidence, stay active, develop teamwork skills, and strengthen their communities.

❤️💙💛 From its beginnings in a YMCA gym and at Springfield College to courts around the globe, basketball remains a powerful example of how the YMCA helps build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

🏐 ADULT CO-ED VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE 🏐

Ready to bump, set, and spike your way through the winter? Gather your friends, coworkers, and family members and join us for an exciting season of Adult Co-Ed Volleyball at the Crawford County YMCA!

📅 League Starts:Friday December 4
📅 Registration Deadline: November 10
📅 Captain's Meeting: Monday November 16 at 5:30 PM
💲 Team Fee: $155 per team
🏐 Season Runs: December through February

Team Requirement:
This is a Co-Ed League, meaning each team must have both male and female players on its roster. Teams may not be made up entirely of males or entirely of females.

TK-2nd Grade Flag Football Reminder!

Today, October 13th, is the final day of TK-2nd Grade Flag Football!

Due to the 3rd-4th Grade Flag Football game taking place this evening, both TK-Kindergarten and 1st-2nd Grade practices will be held inside the YMCA on the turf field.

🌟 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT! 🌟

We’re excited to celebrate Candy Stuart! 💙

Candy has been a valued part of our YMCA family for 7 months. We love to see her walking the track and swimming at the pool each time she visits the Y. We appreciate all of the volunteer work she does to help us keep our programs running the best we can!

When not at the Y, Candy enjoys attending bible study, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

We’re so grateful for members like Candy who help make our Y a welcoming, encouraging, and connected place for everyone. 🫶

YMCA Members may participate in these classes at no cost. Non-members are welcome to attend with the purchase of a daily admission pass.
