Some stories feel woven into the fabric of this place. Mikayla Welch’s story is one of them.
Before she was ever a dancer in our studio, she was already part of this family. She grew up inside these walls watching her mom pour into generations of dancers long before Mikayla was even born. This studio has held so many chapters of her life, which is what makes this moment feel so emotional for all of us.
We have had the privilege of watching Mikayla grow from a little girl with big dreams into an extraordinary young woman and artist. Year after year, she showed up with humility, discipline, kindness, and a quiet determination that never needed attention to be powerful.
What makes Mikayla’s journey so extraordinary is not simply where she is going, but everything she fought through to get there. There was a time when she was told she may never dance the same again. A devastating injury changed everything in an instant, leading to surgery, months of rehabilitation, and the painful reality of having to relearn not just dance, but even how to walk.
And even this year, during what should have been some of the sweetest “lasts” of her senior season, she faced yet another surgery and recovery. While many dancers were soaking in their final moments on stage, Mikayla was submitting college audition videos while injured, navigating pain and uncertainty with incredible grace.
But if there is one thing we know about Mikayla, it is that she does not quit.
What could have broken her instead transformed her. She’s stronger, wiser, and more resilient, always prioritizing kindness and the way she uplifts the people around her.
It is with overwhelming pride and emotion that we celebrate her commitment to the University of California, Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts as a Dance Major and recipient of the Director’s Scholarship.
Mikayla, this studio helped raise you, but you helped shape it too. There are pieces of you that will always live inside these walls, and no matter how far life takes you, this will always be home.
We could not be prouder of you.
