This project has absolutely *languished* 😴 The first two pictures are from over a year ago! My helper and I got the wallpaper off quite easily, but a sticky scum was left behind on the walls. I have only just lately forced myself to get back to it and prepped and painted the upper part. That just leaves cleaning, prepping, and painting the built-in, cleaning, prepping, and painting the beadboard, and demoing and replacing the tile job on the fireplace. And re-finishing the floors. And fixing the dog scratch damage to the door, then painting it. I’m also planning a coat rack along the empty wall. So stay tuned! Though it might be awhile… 😬

Since school began and the leaves have started coming down, we’ve been just a little lax in keeping up with the pool. 😬 Yesterday morning my hubby and daughter were out first thing cleaning it up and getting it ready to be put away for the winter. (Honestly, though, for two people who started swimming in March, I’m a little surprised that they’re willing to take a break!) The hubs snapped this pic of our hard-working girl fishing out leaves, wearing gardening gloves with her nightgown and well-worn pink Wellies as the sun came up. 🌅

The hollyhocks are falling into the porch, but I’m not complaining 😍

I didn’t even think I liked mums!
This was a 3.5” pot in the Spring, now it’s an enormous bouquet, and I think I’m in love 💘💘💘

Glory, glory! I noticed these morning glories growing in front of the little house this morning, along with a funny vine with tiny potatoes hanging off of it. They’re trying to choke out everything in sight, but they sure are pretty! 🤩

I was going through some pictures a few days ago and realized I hadn’t updated this side bed project since I posted about it in the Spring. After taking out the nandina and all the garbage and polluted dirt, we added some delicious premixed garden soil and planted a variety of perennials. They haven’t finished filling in yet (do you know the adage “first they sleep, then they creep, then they leap” regarding the first three years of growth?) but they seem happy here and I still have some space for a few other plants. The lattice got a fresh coat of paint and we topped the bed off with wood chips. The veronica has been flowering all summer, the mums are covered in buds, and even the echinacea looks like it’s going to have a flower or two. The begonia had some gorgeous blooms earlier in the year and has since filled out a lot, so hopefully it will put on a show next year! 🌸

I love watching these belligerent little pixies of the avian world blitzing one another and bellowing at their adversaries as best they can with their soprano cheeps. They’ve kicked their sugar-water slurping into overdrive lately, I guess readying for their impossible journey across the Gulf. I always worry that they’ll wait too long to leave (and I worried even more when it seemed like they were never going to show back up this Spring) but somehow they know how to time it. Godspeed, little birdies.
