On April 2nd Steve Orne ,my husband, passed away. Steve had a 8 year battle of Ocular melanoma cancer. Steve fought long and very hard for the past several years ,he had every known treatment known to man to try to survive this very awful ,evasive cancer. Steve did this with me by his side one year at a time. One month at a time until it, became one day at a time ,where I took care of him here in our home to fulfill his wishes until his last day here on earth. Steve battled cancer with dignity , forse and no one to be recond with , he battled it with hard work a sene of humor and a smile on his face , Steve never complained ,no matter what he was going through . He will be so truly loved and missed by us all. He is at peace now ,and that is what he at the end of his life wanted, just to not worrie about the cancer anymore ,but to enjoy what ever amount of time he had left on this earth. Mt. Baker Wood Sculpture wants to Thank all of our Wonderful costumers through the years. My husband was so passionate about his Art. He lived and breathed chain saw Art and the beautiful people associated with this wonderful life. He was a very shy quiet man ,who instead of talking a lot ,preferred to listen .He was very very intelligent ,kind and gentle. He started out as a young man right out of high school. ,cutting wood and logged for a short time ,until he was ingured, after that , he became a security guard for the Glenn in Maple Falls ,Washington. He had three young children to support, two he raised by himself from very young ages. Tony Orne ,and Tiffany Orne. His other daughter and youngest lived with her mom up until a few years prior when she came to live with us ,her name is Catlain Orne. Soon as his back got better from logging which took a few years ,he had to figure out a way to provide for his children.Steve had a great friend in the carving world that he really enjoyed watching carve, Mr. Dave Tremko ,another life long very talented Artist , Steve then decided this was what he wanted to do. He carved for over 17 years, and as you know also became a Wonderful chain saw Artist . He was famouse for his bears ! Everyone around the world loved his bears. He carved happy bears ,their faces are so adorable! Steve could carve anything anyone asked him to do for them, he just had such a God given talent to reach out of the thin air and carve so many different things. Steve also did many many chain saw competitions, where he was observed to be a very fast carver . He has many mettle's, trophies and placks, that he has received throughout the years. He was even awarded the second fastest bear carver in the world several years ago! I guess you can tell how proud I alone am about my sweetheart Steve Orne. He was the love of my life, We met many years ago, when Steve's children were very small. We became friends, and kept in touch through years ,running into one another at the Holy Smoke Tavern ,where we all up in this neck of the woods would occasionally meet on a Saturday night to sing kairokee, yes Steve loved to sing ,this quiet sweet man would come out of his shell singing. ,Jerimia was a bull frog ! He was a good friend of mine. Yep and he would let it rip ! Steve would sing very loud proud and confident!
Well to say the least I was pretty smitten with this at that time young man. I gave him my business card three times through the years with my info on it, and did he call? Nope, I could tell he liked me , and we had a spark every time we saw one another. After many many more years ,we found another again, with that being said, A big big Thank you to Gus, our dear friend we became inseparable from that day forward. Steve and I decided to wait to get married, as we both had not had the biggest success in that department, we decided to wait for 5 years, you know test the waters, They say you don't really know someone until you have spent a great deal of time with them. For me it was a no brainer, I knew his character and I was smitten from the start many many years ago when we were young. I told Steve, if you still like hanging out with me after 5 years, and are still very happy , then we will make our wedding plans. We waited for 4 in a half years and anxicousrly got married on Dec 17, 2011. We got married in Al Levetts old milking barn ,that we decorated so beautifully, it was quite the transformation.Steves best man was the Wonderful life time chain saw Artist Mr. Steve Backus. My maid honor was my beautiful daughter Krystal Harell . It was truly one of the happiest days of our life together .We were surrounded by our family and friends, to close one wonderful chapter to start another one together, hand in hand, side by side. Steve and I were very Happily married, and best friends ever sense. Steve not only left his mark on this world as a very Wonderful person, but as a Father, a Uncle, a best friend and my sweetheart and husband , I will love him and miss him for the rest of my life. Steve the very talented chain saw Artist left his mark on this world of ours that is for sure . Even after he is gone now, I see him everywhere! In the beautiful faces of not only his children, but his grandchildren, and the beautiful Art he has left behind for all of us to enjoy for many many years to come. God bless you all , God bless our family through this very very difficult time looking the man we all loved adored, and looked up to . Steven James Orne ,you are gone my beloved ,but you will never ever be forgotten. Love your wife Kathleen.
