The Art School at Old Church is proud to present: The Art of Survival

About the Show:
Through The Art of Survival program, led by Marta Levy, Center for Hope & Safety’s Director of Children’s Program and Creative Arts Therapist, Bergen County survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault create visual art as a way to express the trauma of abuse.

“The Art of Survival program allows survivors of domestic abuse to discover their inner creative selves while learning new skills, communicating and interacting with other survivors in a group, and offering and receiving support,” Marta Levy explains. “The exhibit is important for raising awareness about domestic violence in our communities.”

🥁🥁🥁Announcing ... "Raccoonia: Adaptation in a Time of Decay" from October 1 - 31 in the Mikhail Zakin Gallery.

The exhibit features artwork by Brenda Gallagher, Karly Mintz, Carrie Ortiz, and Gail Rutigliano.

This exhibition is the culmination of the course Turning Art into Action, taught by artist Kathryn Eddy at The Art School at Old Church. In the course, local artists focused on processing their positions and reactions to current local, national, and global issues in an effort to start a dialogue.

In their words, “What better way to throw our hat into the ring of discourse than through our love of creating art? We believe artwork is a thoughtful and impactful way to challenge and confront the crises we face today.
