Happy Flag Day

✝️ Read today's devotion --> Flag Day

In the Word
"Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written, 'As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God'" (Romans 14:10–11).

Of the Word
Our national Flag Day observance, June 14, was signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1949. The date commemorates the Continental Congress approving the design of a national flag in 1777. All around the world, countries have a national flag which serves as a proud symbol to most inhabitants.

A nation’s flag is often carried in times of war. A captured flag may signal the loss of a battle. In Christian terms, we know there is an epic battle greater than any fought on this side of heaven. But the wonderful Easter hymn reminds us that “Jesus Lives! The Victory’s Won.” And, as Saint Paul tells us:

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, 'For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.'
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:35–39).

So, as Christians, we pledge our allegiance to our one and only King, Jesus Christ, the Victor over death. Our LWML League Pledge is a beautiful testimony confessing our allegiance to our King. Written in 1955 by Rev. Harry Fricke, it wonderfully describes the ways in which we can serve our Victorious King. You can find the pledge at lwml.org/posts/handbook-resources/the-league-pledge.

Walking with my Lord
Dear Father in heaven, help us remember to whom we should pledge our allegiance. Meanwhile, help us to love our neighbors and to respect our government officials. Please bless our country with peace and prosperity for all. We pray in the name of our one and only King, Jesus Christ. Amen.

A look back at the installation of the Gateway Feature at the intersection of I-95 and West Atlantic Avenue. Completed in 2013, the six 30-foot mural columns were designed by textile artist Michelle Newman with direct input from the Delray Beach community, reflecting the city’s rich history and cultural heritage.

The project was funded largely by the Delray Beach CRA, with additional support from the Florida Department of Transportation, and continues to welcome visitors to downtown Delray Beach to this day.
