Ever get a little too comfortable painting the same way? Sometimes changing how you approach a subject is just what you need to see something new.

That's part of what we'll explore in Abstracted: Figures and Forms. Taking familiar subjects and looking at them differently. Playing with proportions, simplifying shapes, pushing color and finding new ways to put a painting together.

Whether you've been painting for years or are just getting started, there's always something new to explore. And working alongside other artists brings even more ideas to the table.

One of the best things about painting in a group? Learning from each other! Different ideas, different approaches, and those little discoveries that happen along the way.

That's one of the things I love about teaching in person. You can ask questions as you're working, try something new, or get another set of eyes on a painting when you're not quite sure where to take it next.

And sometimes, seeing how someone else approaches the same idea opens up a whole new direction for your own work.

That's what we'll be doing in Abstracted: Figures and Forms. Playing with shape, color and composition, experimenting with acrylics and figuring things out together.

We start this Friday, October 16!

Figures, faces, shapes and color! That's what we'll be exploring in Abstracted: Figures and Forms, starting this Friday at the Boca Raton Museum Art School.

We'll play with simplified shapes, exaggerated features and unexpected colors to create figures and portraits with a little personality. Working with acrylics, we'll start with loose sketches, experiment with composition and build on our ideas as we go.

The idea isn't to paint a perfect likeness. It's to take what you see, play with it and make it your own.

All levels welcome, whether you're just getting started or have been painting for years.

One thing I love about teaching in person is getting to figure things out together. Ask questions, try something new, change direction when something isn't working. And there's so much to learn just by seeing what everyone else is doing.

In Abstracted: Figures and Forms, we'll play with shape, color, and composition, using acrylics to create figures and portraits that don't have to follow all the rules.

I’m excited to invite you to the Creative Arts School’s annual Student/Faculty Exhibition opening reception this Friday, October 2 from 6–9pm at the Creative Arts School at Old School Square in Downtown Delray Beach.

Even more exciting — four of my students had work selected for the show, including monoprints and cut-paper collages. I’m so thrilled for them! 👏

The reception is part of Downtown Delray Beach’s monthly First Friday Art Walk, with light bites, refreshments, and other activities throughout the evening.

Come by, see the exhibition, and help celebrate these artists!
