WOW! What a night. One among several that will be remembered as a galvanizing event to signal the return of
Churchill’s to the institution it’s always been. Sadly, we are constantly forced to remove large amounts of frothy
language before posting due to caption limits, and with 7 bands to applaud, we will keep it short.

HAGGUS - discovered at OEF 2023, affirmed at our home bar in 2026. One of the great acts in Grind and a modern banner carrier for this beloved music. The temptation to join them on stage once more was too much, though we kept it in our pants this go-round.
IMPLOSIVE DISGORGENCE - One of the A-tier bands of our scene, a true genre-bending pivot piece that fits almost any Metal bill, and really great guys at that!
LETHAL INJECTION - WOW! What a unique addition to our scene, and our first viewing of this dynamic electronic tinged Extreme act. A true Highlight of the night was when Liam let us twist his k**b

LIVE REPORT! 02/27 Crows Nest Showcase
📍 Kelly’s Pub
Last Friday showcased a 4-band bill at Kelly’s Pub, a place once reserved for the afters (or priors) on Culture Room nights, today serveing as an all ages spot for local shows, much needed in the absence of the Legion. All 4 of these bands ply their trade on Crows Nest records, a 1-man Metal Factory run by Luca Lazar - a young man wise beyond his years, not yet of drinking age, but already seasoned in his musical palate.

Here at Classic Steel, we love filling holes - and UNDERCRYPT fill a gaping void where Old School BM energy is much needed. Black Metal, above all, is a genre inspired by geography - for frontman and Moog-wielder Nick Cody to conjure frostbitten riffs and grim passages straight from He***te Records, is a testament to the imagination of this potent trio. We’re blessed to enjoy UNDERCRYPT.

HACKSAW (friends of the program) have quickly become a band who will elevate any bill they’re on. Whether opening for a big touring band, or stacking the teeth of the order at Friday’s show, frontman Colin Keough adds intense energy over some of the hardest hitting riffs and surprisingly jazzy drums. HACKSAW benefit from a rhythm section that also man the strings in Bloodtied, and a dual guitar attack that layers riffs with extra peanut butter to our satisfaction.

AMNIO - brainchild of label master, Luca are a Melodeath band closer to the vein of Edge of Sanity than The Haunted, with dark Black Metal-tinged riffs to cement the old school Swedish-inspired approach. AMNIO - never sacrifice aggression for melody, nor ignore the inclusion of higher register guitar passages and mid-paced portions to flesh the songs out brilliantly.

EPHEMERAL were last - and I believe with a different configuration as last I saw them, the drummer/vocalist now serving as frontman, with Luca of Amnio behind the kit. This was the best we’ve heard the band, with the 3-pronged string assault and standalone vocalist finishing the crushing sound of South Florida’s Bolt Thrower.

On the weekend of February 6-7, Classic Steel forged a mighty alliance with Midway young guns and Death Metal futurists, MORBIDITY. Beyond the absolutely skyward potential shown by these young, ultra-talented Old Skool aggressors, the band can count on the support of drummer Jack’s father, John - Army Veteran, Metalhead, and model Dad. What a joy it was to see his smirk of approval as his young son Jack blasted away on catchy tunes like Convulsing In The Tomb, Engulfed In Parasites, and the new single, Regurgitated Remnants. In what became a more challenging journey than expected, John traversed Hillsborough County, putting up flyers across town, buying tickets and inviting friends to both shows, and turning our Tampa show in particular into a de facto veterans meetup - a cause we were glad to support! Everyone in all walks of life would benefit from a support system like that which John threw behind MORBIDITY. We are grateful to John, the entire band, and the Chicago scene for lending us one of their finest on a wintry weekend!

SORRY FOR LATE POST 😬
This was a first for Classic Steel - few know this, but the master of this page is quite squeamish around
themes of horror, blood, and violence. However, after experiencing the overstimulation of live WRASSLIN and 4 of the best bands we could summon, we are hooked!

HEADFOAM opened the eve, one of the most underrated SoFLa bands. HEADFOAM’s sound is like a bifurcation of eras. In a parallel universe, they would fit pristinely into the mid-80s, forming foundational components of Black Metal, Punk, Sludge, & Thrash - yet here they are in ’26, their 9th year of existence, twisting threads of their multigenerational influence into one of the most unique bands in Miami. The finale of Electric KrackPipe brought home a wicked opening set.

DARK RITUAL were next - another genre bending act quickly picking up steam across the state. Seeing vocalist Stefano reapproach the melody in “The Displeasure Of Living Modern Times” as the ghoulish man in the first match held aloft his thumbtack-filled, marble tophat was an epic visual that will be forever seared into our minds. This was the first of the wrasslin matches, featuring throwback muscleman Ozzy Kilmeister against Skitz, a ghastly figure who trades physical size for mystique & misdirection.

EJECUTADOR - led by talismanic mullet-haver Alvar and his throwback Blackened Thrash riff attack, brought the eve toward its crescendo. Fresh off their recent release, “Devoid of Remorse” and now backed by the remarkably talented Will Hanson. Will looked happy as a clam playing the Thrash passages (the THRASHAGES) he loves most. The match that went down during this was insane. More broken s**t and crazy moves than we were prepared for!

Lastly, IRON BUDDHA took the stage. Close to 1AM and with no blood left to spill. As a Doom—forward band, it was the perfect rhythmic, riff machine to take us home. By no means did numbers drop or energy tire, which is encouraging to see in an audience - and the fact we all stayed, and enjoyed every second of this band whom we’ve been meaning to view for some time, speaks to the level of performance they brought.
