I’ve been processing pride month since the beginning of April.
Who I am as a person, how I want people to perceive me, being bisexual, and being comfortable as a non binary individual.

Being fem presenting has been my longest, outstanding performance that I may continue until I die. Some days because I feel I am pressured by society. Some days because I’m sexy as f**k.

Some days I am confident. Some days I am in pain.
I think about my friends who call me Santi and use my pronouns (they/them). I wonder if they know how that means everything to me.
I think about the partners who never tried and causing a wave of folks to never know or understand that my dead name is not who I am. How badly I wanted to tell them my present name and pronouns but I never wanted to embarrass my partner so I stayed quiet. Maybe they were ashamed of me. Maybe I was ashamed of myself for not speaking up.

And as I processed that pain, I sat with myself. Every q***r individual has their own perspective but mine is: it doesn’t matter how people perceive me. I know who I am.

My name is Santi. I am non binary. And I am comfortable.
How people see me is a reflection of them. As long as I meet myself with the same grace I offer others I will always find my community and they will find me.

Around this time last year, I attended an event and saw an artist I had never heard of beforehand. But watching them perform live stirred up emotions I hadn’t felt in a long time. It was like experiencing my favorite sounds for the first time. I remembered being surrounded by friends, I couldn’t help but think, “I hope I get to perform for them someday. I don’t know how, but I hope it happens.”

Then, I saw the flyer. Despite my years of performing experience, I still felt a pang of shyness and didn’t say anything.

But then the opportunity presented itself. What a feeling! It was like a surge of creativity that had been lying dormant suddenly rushed forward and declared, “It’s time.”

On Friday, May 24th, I will be performing for supersillyus. While I have so many ideas swirling around in my mind, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to bring all my ideas to life. However, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the desire to create once again. New characters, an act, or perhaps a new prop? What a feeling.

I look forward to reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new ones at this event. 🫶🏼🔥
