J Elijah Cho’s Award Winnind One Man Show, MR YUNIOSHI, returns to Florida on December 15th at !

Winner of Best Solo Show at the 2019 Hollywood Fringe Festival, Mr. Yunioshi is an insightful, humorous, and compelling exploration of identity and performance.

Mickey Rooney’s infamous performance as Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is often pointed to as the most egregious example of yellowface in the movies.

His over the top characterization is cringeworthy to watch to this day, but it also raises several questions:

Should actors really have the opportunity to play any role?

Could there ever have been a “right” way for him to play it?

And what compels an actor to play a character that they really probably shouldn’t be playing?

J. Elijah Cho explores these topics and more through humor in his solo performance, Mr. Yunioshi.

Join us for a special film screening of Breakfast at Tiffany's! You won't want to miss seeing this iconic movie, especially if you plan to see or have seen our Solo Shows Festival presentation of Mr. Yunioshi (where Asian American actor J. Elijah Cho plays Mickey Rooney as he wrestles with his conscience when the studio asks him to play the Asian character in this movie, and will give an introduction at this event).

Based on Truman Capote's novel, this is the story of a young woman in New York City who meets a young man when he moves into her apartment building. He is with an older woman who is very wealthy, but he wants to be a writer. She is working as an expensive es**rt and searching for a rich, older man to marry.

The wearing of face masks is still currently required at our events.

Rated G. Runtime is 1 hour and 55 minutes.
