Occupying 8 spacious rooms in the historic Castle Inn in Delaware Water Gap, PA, Mix-O-Lydian enters a new phase in its history as one of the metropolitan area’s longest running recording studios. This quaint riverside town, a mere hour from Manhattan, offers a very creative environment for the production and engineering talents of the legendary man, who has helmed a wide variety of recording proj

ects during more than three decades as owner of Mix-O-Lydian. Throughout its long history, Mix-O-Lydian has placed a particular emphasis on offering the finest equipment for sound reproduction, mixing and mastering, from classic Neumann and Sennheiser mics to much sought-after Neve preamps to the unrivaled EMT plate reverb. But a world-class recording studio isn’t just defined by its equipment and facilities. It’s in the expertise of the person “behind the board.” Very satisfied clients both past and present will attest to the fact that Don has two of the best “ears” in the business, along with the ability to foster a very creative musical environment. More images from the Bob Solberg collection: TV TOY at Mixolydian Recording Studio — taken before long-time TV TOY friend and colleague Bob formally became the fourth member of the band. Don Sternecker’s studio was a vital crossroads of the 70s Morris County, New Jersey original music scene (dubbed "The MoCo Scene" by the local press). Don was in the very thick of it, providing fertile creative ground for dozens of local artists. And he's still at the helm, laying down tracks over at Mix-O-Lydian.

Released 40 years ago: “The Good Earth” by The Feelies (our copy here). This second LP by the New Jersey jangle-pop / college rock band arrived six years after their influential debut “Crazy Rhythms.” Band members spent the early ‘80s away from The Feelies working on side projects such as Yung Wu and The Trypes. Finally in 1985, they returned with Peter Buck co-producing this second Feelies album, decidedly less frenetic than their debut but gathering at least as much acclaim; The Village Voice graded it “A-” and The A.V. Club “A.” Later, Pitchfork scored 9.1 of 10. It remains a fan-favorite. Guitarists Glenn Mercer & Bill Million wrote every track. Fun fact: Glenn & Bill formed The Feelies 50 years ago (!) and all members on this second album remain with the band to this day. More in Comments.
