Working in oils and pastels, Kathy White-Lux brings a spirit of exploration to her art and is the feature artist at Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery, located at 100 W. Greenwood, for the First Friday Art Walk, May 1st from 7 pm to 10 pm. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served during the art walk hours.
Kathy, a Texas-based artist, is part of the Del Rio High School ’63 alumni. Pam Bunch, owner and resident artist at Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery, grew up with Kathy and her siblings here in Del Rio, from childhood through graduating high school. Upon graduating, they all scattered and went their separate ways. Pam and Kathy’s lives crossed paths again some 35 or more years later at an art workshop in Fredericksburg, TX, with Chuck Maulding as the instructor.
Kathy currently resides in Fredericksburg, works primarily in pastels, and states she is largely self-taught. However, she has studied in various workshops in both oil and pastels and has been greatly influenced by Karen Margulis and Alain Picard. Kathy’s goal in selecting a subject is to capture what makes her heart happy, which includes anything from the natural world—it will often find a spot on her easel, perhaps as a landscape. She brings a spirit of exploration to her art.
Although working in pastels is Kathy’s main focus, she has recently revisited oil and watercolor, studying with C. S. Talley of Fredericksburg at his nocturne workshop, recently held at the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville. Kathy also, from time to time, follows online watercolor demonstrations on YouTube—a great way to get instruction from some nationally known artists. Currently, Kathy is taking an online workshop through the Tucson Art Academy with Skip Whitcomb on the Power of Orchestrated Color. She is also currently serving as President of the Die Künstler von Fredericksburg art organization.
Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery also exhibits, on a daily basis, nationally known local, state, and regional fine artists. Most of the artists who exhibit with Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery accept commissions specifically to fit your décor and desires. The gallery also provides custom matting and framing for all of your art projects. Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery hours are from 11:00 am to 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with Saturdays by appointment only. For more information concerning the art walk or gallery, please call Pam Bunch at 830-774-3456 or 830-719-2732.
