Hi Defiance! We are launching an indoor Maker's Marketplace starting in November. The Marketplace will feature local Maker's who will exhibit their art and goods for sale.

As we head into the holiday season, we start to be bombarded with ads from large corporations who want to profit off us while selling us often poorly made AI generated slop.

As a community, we have to opportunity to shop small and support the amazing work of our neighbors and gift our loved ones one of a kind pieces that they can cherish forever.

Come visit Downtown Defiance and check out all of the shops that make this community unique. The downtown district is home to a host of courageous entrepreneurs who have so much to offer and we are so proud to work alongside them.

The Maker's Foundry is going to host an indoor Maker's Marketplace as we head into the holiday season. We are calling for local artists and artisans who would like to exhibit in our space on Saturdays in November and December.

We can offer an 8 foot table space that you can decorate however you desire. Our goal is to help local artists launch their brands so we will only accept a small exhibit fee if you make sales that day.

We are passionate about making incredible art accessible to our community and supporting the artists as best we can. If you have any questions about exhibiting, please email [email protected]

Our featured artist Jenny Deringer is demonstrating the art of cyanotype.

Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing processes, dating back to the 1840s. Using a light-sensitive solution, artists arrange flowers, leaves, lace, found objects—or even photographic negatives—onto paper or fabric and expose them to sunlight.

After rinsing the piece in water, the exposed areas transform into that unmistakable, deep Prussian blue while the covered areas remain light, creating a beautiful botanical silhouette.

Every cyanotype is a little different, making each print completely one-of-a-kind.

Part science experiment, part photography, part art—all beautiful!! Come see us and take home one of our beautiful pieces today!

Happy Artober Defiance! We are thrilled to introduce our featured artist of October Jenny Deringer!

Jenny Derringer became active in art after retiring from The Crescent-News five years ago. She has since joined the Defiance Society of Artists and the Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert.
Her preferred forms of art are photography, linocut and watercolor, but she also takes classes in ceramics and glasswork. She recently started experimenting with cyanotype printmaking and regularly enters art shows in Defiance, Van Wert and Archbold. She is currently helping organize the Defiance Society of Artists' Fine Art Show, which will be open to the public on Sundays from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 18, Oct. 25, Nov. 1 and Nov. 8 at the Defiance College Women's Commission Gallery on East Sessions Street. The shows are open to the public.
