Printmaking without a Press: Reduction Linocut Workshop

Description: Join printmaker and book artist Stephanie Stigliano for an introduction to carving a reduction block and printing it without a press.
Multi-colored images will be created using a single linoleum block that is progressively carved away and printed in successive layers to develop an image in multiple colors. We will create a three-color reduction linocut
carved from E-Z Cut or Soft-Kut, a material that is easy to carve. Instead of using a printing press, we will transfer ink from the linoleum block to paper by hand rubbing. These techniques allow for creativity and
experimentation and can be done almost
anywhere – no press required.
This workshop is for adults (and teens 16+) with a maximum of twelve participants. No prior printmaking experience is necessary – bring your curiosity and an interest in creating, experimenting, and discovering new ways to make prints. Make prints, make friends.
Instructor: Stephanie Stigliano
The prints and artist books of Stephanie Stigliano are in the collections of the Fogg Museum and the Houghton Library of Harvard University, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the National Museum for
Women in the Arts. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
She recently retired from Boston College where she taught Making Prints/Making Books. She is a longtime member of The Boston Printmakers and is a co-founder of New England Book Artists and serves on the board.
