Jana brings a deep focus in copper forming to this four-week class, where students work a flat sheet into a hollow vessel through sinking and successive courses of raising, annealing between each and truing as they go. It is the most meditative class on our calendar and the one where the transformation is most visible.

Covers sinking, raising courses, annealing, planishing, truing, and finishing.

Back in the kiln, and going further. Enameling: Beyond the Basics with Juliet Cocca and Beth McGavock.

For students who already know their way around a sift and a firing, this workshop opens up sgraffito, stencilling, layered transparents, and firing enamel over textured and formed metal - the techniques that turn flat color into real depth.

Discover how glass and metal fuse into permanent color in our Enameling workshop with Juliet Cocca and Beth McGavock.

Working with vitreous enamel over copper, students will learn to prepare and clean metal, sift and wet-pack enamel, and fire in the kiln to bring flat powder to glossy, jewel-like life. You will see how the same color shifts depending on the ground beneath it and how many times it meets the heat.

This full-day workshop covers surface prep, counter-enameling, sifting, wet-packing, firing, and finishing.

Meet Jana, our newest raising instructor at Ore Metals.

A recent graduate of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Jana brings a deep focus in copper forming, with a particular love for raising. Over the past two years, she’s developed her practice working primarily in copper and brass, while continuing to explore silver and jewelry along the way.

In this photo, Jana holds both the starting point and the result: a flat sheet of copper transformed into a raised bowl through patience, precision, and process.
