I grew up in a household where music and entertainment were held in high regard.
My parents born in the 1930’s grew up with
Radio. My Mother a country mouse , my Dad the city mouse met at a Airforce USO dance and the danced the night away. In our house we listened to jazz, opera, classical, show tunes, modern, but one constant was country western music. On the radio the sound of WHOW the sound of now Country Music broadcast from Clinton Illinois played from the kitchen radio, my Dad’s car was always blasting country tune.…My parents would roll back the rug in the living room and jitterbug. But my youngest memories is that of music. I vowed in high school not to listen to Country Western, it wasn’t cool. Yes Barbara Mandrell you were right.
But a strange thing happened, bands like Marshall Tucker, Ozark Mountain DareDevils, folk singer John Prine, The Allman Brothers, Lynrd Skynyrd
Hit the scene all with sweet country backgrounds. They called me back to my country roots. My Irish roots called to me the sound of a fiddle makes my toes start tapping. the sound of Appalachian tells an immigrant story, baring their soul and communicating in song and story telling. sweet southern rock sings to my heart
Just like my parents listening to Big Bands of Tommy Dorsey , crooners like Frank Sinatra
My Dad lovedConway Twitty Hello Darling& Loretta Lynn.
My Mother lovedJohnny Cash and his wife June Carter Jackson, ( June was a divorced mother in a time that was rare . My mother and father divorced , I think they spoke to her Times were changing. I went to the Taylorville Fair with My Mom snd sister and got both autographed record Of Johnny Cash and June Carter .In Chicago in the 30’s 40’s and 50’s was WLS barn dance my mother would catch a train to watch that show that was broadcast on the radio. As a teenager I listened to rock and roll W L S Chicago, we still listened to the radio, just like pod casts today ,.
Last night for the 3rd time in my life , I saw the Ozark Mountain Daredevils,
A hippy band from Springfield Missouri( by the wayBrad Pitt-is from there also… must be in the water).I am 66 so they are in the 70’s They started in 1971, I believe some of them met in college.they sounded great, two original singers have passed.
Look up the song Jackie Blue or country girl.
I also spent the evening with friends.
Memories are an important part of life.
Good friends are like rare gems…
Feels like fall today…. Have a Fun Day Sunday
A shout to my neighbor Crystal Bergfield who
