Wise Ballet and Music Academy Owned and directed by Karen Smith since 1985. Karen Smith has owned and directed Wise Ballet and Music Academy from 1985 to present day.

Located in Decatur, Tx, WBMA offers Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Pilates, Contemporary/Modern, and more for all ages beginning at age 3. She has a BFA with a major in ballet from Texas Christian University. She is a former dancer with the Fort Worth Ballet, under the direction of Fernando Schaffenburg and is also a former dancer with the Fort Worth Opera. Prior to opening her own studio in Wise County, Ka

ren taught at Schaffenburg's Ballet Academy for six years, taught summer dance classes at Texas Christian University, and has been a guest teacher/choreographer at several studios in the metroplex as well as in Pennsylvania. She has studied technique classes at the Alvin Ailey Dance Studios in New York City under the guidance of Finis Jhung and early childhood dance educator, Beverly Spell. She studied advanced technique classes at CPYB Teacher Workshop in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Wrapping up our third Summer Intensive with a beautiful showcase! ✨ Endless thank yous to Isichel Perez for an inspiring week of mentorship and encouragement. We couldn’t be more proud of every dancer for stepping outside their comfort zone, working so hard, and supporting one another along the way. Seeing all of their progress in the showcase was the perfect way to end three amazing weeks. We can’t wait to watch them utilize this knowledge within the next year!

And just when we thought the countless rehearsals were over… the girls (and Levi) decided to spend the night at the studio! 🌙🩰💤
Our advanced dancer lock-in was filled with partnering, Nutcracker dances, ballet dvds, Mario cart, snacks of course, and plenty of memories made along the way. These dancers just don’t know how to stay away from the studio. Thank you to our lovely teachers Andrea, Blake, and Meagan for staying with our dancers!
