Today at 2 o’clock is our final performance of James and the Giant Peach. Everyone is welcome! This performance is sensory friendly. That means the house lights will not go out all the way, we minimize sounds and effects that might startle, and we welcome our audience to be comfortable in our space. Bring your tablet, your stuffed friend, and your wiggly self!

Programs and grants like this have many levels of positive impact. Not only do grants like this give students the opportunity to engage with live theatre and storytelling, they also support future productions for the hosting theatre. We had a wonderful time with Edward Tulane and his Miraculous Journey! Stay tuned for our Spring Show announcement tomorrow that features another Miraculous Journey!

The E2 classrooms at Montessori Academy for Peace were able to attend The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. The play was put on by The Richland Community College Theatre Program. The play is based on Kate DiCamillo’s novel. Many of the classes read the novel and were moved by Edward’s journey. The students were able to compare and contrast the book and the play. The students reflected on how the main character, Edward, developed throughout the play, and the life lessons we could learn from him.

We are so grateful to the Decatur Public Schools Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Illinois Arts Council Agency, and the Decatur Area Arts Council for making this field trip possible.

“This program is partially sponsored by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Illinois Arts Council Agency and the Decatur Area Arts Council."
