Athenian Players The Athenian Players are the resident Theatre Company representing the Drama program at Athens State University.

The Athenian Players are the resident theatre company representing the Drama program at Athens State University. Athens State offers coursework in the junior and senior level as a baccalaureate degree-granting institution of the State of Alabama. The Drama Program at Athens State offers a Bachelor of Arts in Drama & Theatre Arts. It also offers a Drama Minor and a Technical Theatre Minor, which ar

e open to all ASU students regardless of their major. The Athenian Players produce a play each semester, drawing the cast and crew from the diverse and talented ASU student body, students at nearby schools, and the local Alabama community. The Players home is the Studio Theatre at the Alabama Center for the Arts located in Historic Downtown Decatur. Our goal is to continue the long tradition of quality dramatic productions from Athens State University’s illustrious history and to be a beacon for future theatre artists in the greater Northern Alabama region. MEET THE CAST 👾
Honey Leeann (Alyssa) has worked on stage with Renaissance Theatre, Outlet Stage Company, Athenian Players, and Calhoun Theatre as an actress, director, stage manager and much more. Her most memorable roles are in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Ensemble - 2014/15), Medea (Nurse), Chicago (Katalin Helinski-The Hungarian) and Peter and the Starcatcher (Mrs. Bumbrake). Honey has also Stage Managed for Jesus Christ Superstar, The Laramie Project, Cabaret and American Idiot. She had her Directorial Debut with Sarah Ruhl’s Eurydice recently as well with Outlet Stage Company.

MEET THE CAST 👾
Jamar (Homer) has worked with, Nashville Children’s Theatre,  Dreamweavers Theatre, Calhoun Theatre, Athenian Players, and Independent Music Productions. Jamar is a Theatre Student at Athens State University studying Performance & Directing. He has done tech work for a plethora of shows such as Our Town, Rocket Men, and Seussical. His most memorable performance was in The Edinburgh Scotland Fringe Festival (2023).  Featured performances include, American Idiot (Tunny), The Laramie Project (Doc O’Connor) Rent (Joanne’s Dad), Legally Blonde (Carlos), Eurydice (Loud Stone).

MEET THE CAST 👾
Vicki Montgomery (Rhonda) is a graduating senior at Athens State University. She enjoys being silly, baking sweets, and spending quality time with her friends pwning some noobs on Fortnite. Past show credits include: Midsummer Night’s Dream (Titania), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Rosencrantz) and more. Vicki is also very appreciative of every opportunity to work with Athenian Players and wants to thank Dr. Long for making her time with Athenian Players the best 6 years so far. To quote All’s Well That Ends WellI (Act 5, Scene 3) “Mine eyes smell onions.”

Past memorable roles include - “Lion in Winter” (Queen Eleanor) ; “Steel Magnolias (Clairee); “Lady Windemere’s Fan” (Duchess) ; “All in the Timing” (Mrs. Trotsky).

Azona Williams (Jen) is a professional actor from Decatur, Alabama. Some past shows of hers include Ruined (Mama Nadi), Rent (Joann), Dreamgirls (Deena) and Eurydice (Eurydice). One thing that she is proud of is preforming on the Kennedy Center Stage for KCACTF. In her down time, she enjoys spending time in nature and re-watching her favorite movies.

Loryn Free (Cleo) is a Birmingham-Southern College alum and Athens State senior finishing a B.F.A. in Technical Theatre. Her onstage experience includes The Fantasticks (Mute), John Proctor is the Villian (Ms. Gallagher), and Head Over Heels (Philoclea). Her technical experience is all over the place.
