As enCore 2026 draws to an end, we’re spotlighting one final can’t-miss film! 🎥

“The Gift” from director Mikki Sindhunata is a slow, sensorial exploration of isolation, vulnerability, and the complicated human need for connection.

Alesya (34) lives alone in a remote house and has made a ritual of spending her birthday in complete solitude. But this year, the day takes an unexpected turn when a mysterious box appears at her doorstep.

Inside is something she cannot explain: a living, sentient hybrid being. Suspicious at first, Alesya allows it to stay. What begins as an uneasy coexistence slowly develops into an intimate and ambiguous relationship, blurring the boundaries between human and object, closeness and control.

As the being settles into her space, it begins to disrupt the routines that have long protected Alesya from the outside world. In its quiet presence, emotions she has carefully kept at a distance begin to surface.

This September, REEL Art returns to the storefront windows of Core Dance with Access Point – Work In Progress, a film installation by Adam Larsen in collaboration with Sue Schroeder 🌱

Access Point (full-length premiere anticipated in 2028) is a one-hour immersive documentary exploring the relationship between disability, accessibility, and the natural world.

Following individuals with a range of disabilities through hiking trails, beaches, forests, rivers, and other outdoor spaces, the work brings attention to the barriers that can limit access to nature while highlighting experiences of connection, resilience, community, and empowerment 🙌🏻

Presented through REEL Art, the film installation series brings this conversation into the heart of Downtown Decatur from September 1st through 30th.

Recall | Redial | Revisit | Revolve

Introducing the next film of enCore 2026…Shadows of Time ⏳

Shadows of Time is a non-narrative art film by Aguascopio, an all-female collective merging artistic swimming, costume design, and drone photography to explore human existence from a macro perspective. Filmed on the Ibiza coast, the performers create patterns both on land and in the sea 🌊

Filmed on sandy beaches, rocky cliffs and other locations such as an ancient lookout tower at sunset and sunrise, their bodies nearly disappear, leaving only their elongated shadows to move like fleeting markers of time. Shadows slip through the cracks of time, and time lingers in the shadows. Spirals and sundial-like shapes are created by the performers in their endless search for living in the present moment.

From above, the swimmers resemble microorganisms drifting in a Petri dish, the circles they create evoking time as an infinite loop—unfolding, dissolving, and reforming. Blurring past and future, presence and absence, Shadows of Time transforms the landscape into a contemplative space where time does not move in a line but in endless cycles 🌀

“Row Your Boat” is a psychological exploration of validation, shame, and queerness, inspired by Alan Downs’ The Velvet Rage. This film merges the emotional depth of Downs’ themes with extreme physicality, using intense, exaggerated movement to reflect the internal struggles of the LGBTQ+ community.

Set in a raw and atmospheric world, Row Your Boat follows characters trapped in cycles of perfectionism and exhaustion, each desperate to prove their worth—whether through athleticism, obsession, or seeking external approval. The film examines the power of touch as both a source of connection and a marker of isolation, highlighting the ways physical and emotional endurance shape identity🌱

Brian Golden - Director, Writer, and Producer
Donny Collinson, Spencer Seebach, and Zachary Buri - Key Cast
