Kevin Dewey, the group seeks out and performs the best in contemporary and traditional choral music. Vanguard Voices was formed in 1992, building upon the long choral tradition of the Dearborn Choral Arts Society and the Oratorio Society of Dearborn. nces possible. The group is an auditioned mixed choir of 65 members from throughout the Metropolitan Detroit area. Repertoire has included grand choral works from the Classical, Romantic and Modern eras, as well as Gregorian chant, Renaissance motets, international folk songs, opera choruses, contemporary works and jazz standards. The group has performed a cappella, with orchestra or with its own Vanguard Brass Ensemble. Over the past several seasons, Vanguard Voices has enjoyed a productive collaboration with the Dearborn Symphony as well as productions with the DSO and many other renown individuals and organizations. Vanguard Voices was honored to accept an invitation to compete at the prestigious Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in North Wales in 2001, where it placed second in the Mixed Choirs category. With the recent opening of a new home performance venue in Dearborn, the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, Vanguard Voices' horizons have expanded. Vanguard Voices is sponsored by the Dearborn Recreation Department and is choir-in-residence at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, where G. Kevin Dewey is a member of the music faculty. Vanguard Voices actively seeks new members in all voice sections. Open rehearsals for all interested singers are held in early September and early January of each concert season. You are welcome to join us on those occasions to meet our artistic director and our members, sing along with us and learn about our concert season. Those singers who wish to pursue membership in Vanguard Voices can schedule an appointment for an audition after the open rehearsal. Auditions are held with the artistic director. New members typically join the group in September and January of each year. Rehearsals are Thursdays, 7:00pm - 10:00pm.
