Drawing from his lived experiences, Roman Villarreal depicts the triumphs and tragedies of his community in his art. Themes in his work range from personal to communal, from joy to loss. The 1980s were a period of hardship for Villarreal and his community, and the artist commemorates those lost at this time in "Goodbye," a marble sculpture in which a group gathers for a drink to pay tribute to friends who passed away.

"Roman Villarreal: South Chicago Legacies" is the first major retrospective exhibition of the work of Villarreal. The show opens to the public this Friday, June 17, with free admission for all guests throughout its opening weekend. 🎟 Reserve your free tickets in advance on Tock!
