Our largest group of campers since it's return after Covid, represented B-CU's Marching Wildcats well! After a week of intense rehearsals, workshops, sprinkled with a little fun, the campers "Showed up, and showed out..." in their performance at Universal Studios. After the performance students enjoyed the their last day in the parks.

Today, over 225 campers moved in to their dorms on the beautiful campus of Bethune-Cookman University and met with band staff and the current Marching Wildcat members who will be their student leaders for the 2024 B-CU High School Summer Band Camp. Groups of high school leadership from all over the country arrived to the campus, with a majority of students arriving from Illinois, Virginia and Florida! This week, students will learn what it takes to be a successful participant in a collegiate band program. The camp experience will allow students to explore their creativity while learning from a diverse, experienced group of band leaders such as drum majors, captains, and many instrumentalist. During camp, students will participate in daily practices and routines that will prepare them for leadership when they return to their hometown school and community. The final day of camp ends with an exciting parade performance on Friday, June 28th at Universal Studios located in Orlando, FL to display the participants acquired knowledge and skills!

Bethune-Cookman University Marching Band Director Donovan Wells '84 held court at today's 2024 National Battle of the Bands press conference in Houston, Texas. Now in its tenth year, the NBOTB is the largest historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU) marching band event in the country, promoting rich culture and showcasing exceptional musical talent.
The Marching Wildcats boast over 200 members, including instrumentalists, the Sophisticat Flag Corp, and the 14 Karat Gold Dancers. Known as "The Pride," the B-CU Band strives to bring the finest performances to viewing audiences. This year's NBOTB performance by The Pride is set to continue this tradition of excellence.

B-CU's Mary Choice Awards surprised and presented Dr. Wells with the Mary McLeod Bethune Legacy Award. The student body, Mass Communications Dept, staff and band members were able to surprise Mr. Wells with this award presented by his sister and brother in-law that traveled from Virginia for this special occasion.
