KARAOKE IS SO MUCH MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE... AND EAR.
Like most entertainment industries, you don't need a license or a diploma, or even a background in that area to call yourself "professional". Basically you just need to buy the equipment and have the nerve to sell yourself and walk onto that stage.
Karaoke isn't just pushing buttons and announcing names!! It's an art form believe it or not. As much as it's highly imperative to know what to do to make everyone's experience enjoyable, it's just as important to know what NOT to do! Entertainment isn't just about one or two things. It's a complex concoction of many different things.
Technical knowledge
Audio engineering savvy
The best equipment
The right personality
Diplomacy at all times
Poise under pressure
An ear for music
Voice expertise
Organization
Presentation
Charisma
Energy
It is the tenacious culmination of all of the above that makes a KJ really loved and successful. It takes time and commitment. The cream does rise to some degree, but it's up to you to take it to next level. Hosting karaoke is not easy! It takes a lot of work, especially if you have a robust show. Most people don't realize how much work goes into a show. It's worth it when people rave about your show, but it's still mostly an unappreciated field of endeavor.
