Lauren Boebert’s 21-year-old son Tyler has been arrested and charged with five felonies: three child-sexual-exploitation counts and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The allegations involve a video from 2024, when he was 18 and the girl was 17; he is entitled to due process, but these are grave charges.
And yet the Republican Party that treats a rainbow flag like a five-alarm emergency somehow always finds room to look the other way when the scandal is coming from inside its own “family values” house.
Not a drag queen.
Not a trans person.
Not an imaginary boogeyman in a school-library story hour.

Lauren Boebert has made a career out of yelling about protecting children while peddling every lazy, dangerous smear the right can weaponize against LGBTQ people. But when the issue is an actual arrest, actual felony charges, actual allegations of exploitative material involving a minor? Suddenly the people who demand public executions for everyone else discover the concepts of “privacy,” “grace,” and “wait for the facts.”
Yes: wait for the legal process. Hold every defendant to the same standard of evidence and due process. But also spare us the sanctimonious Republican lecture circuit. You do not get to spend years accusing teachers, librarians, parents, trans people, and drag performers of being threats to children—and then clutch pearls when scrutiny lands in your own political ecosystem.
And this family’s history makes the hypocrisy even harder to ignore. In 2004, Jayson Boebert, then 24, pleaded guilty to public indecency and lewd exposure after exposing himself to two young women at a Colorado bowling alley; Lauren, then 17 and his girlfriend, was reportedly present.
“Family values” was never a principle. It was branding. And the brand is rotten.
