A few things I learned as a bride… 🤍

Now that the wedding is over, here’s what I would do differently — and what I would 100% do again.

WHAT I WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY:

🎥 Book the videographer.
My biggest regret. Photos are amazing, but I wish we had the voices, vows, sermon and little moments on video.

🤍 Hire a day-of coordinator.
Someone to take over the details so you can actually be the bride and enjoy your day.

🥂 Hire table service.
Someone to refill waters, clear plates and keep things tidy. Our friends and family stepped in, but I wish they could have just relaxed and enjoyed themselves.

WHAT I WOULD 100% DO AGAIN:

✨ Book Friday + Saturday — Having Friday to set up and rehearse without rushing was worth every penny.

🌱 Hire event styling + setup — Being able to get ready and walk into a completely finished space was priceless.

📸 Hire a second photographer — So many moments are happening at the same time!

🍸 Hire professional bartenders — They kept everything flowing and made the bar fun for our guests.

🎶 Have a great DJ — They do so much more than play music. They keep the entire evening moving.

🍽️ Use real glassware + silverware — It elevated the entire reception.

🥂 Cocktail hour BEFORE the ceremony — One of our favorite decisions! Guests could grab a drink, mingle and relax before we started.

My biggest takeaway:
Spend your money on the things that allow you — and the people you love — to be present and enjoy the day.

It goes by SO fast. 🤍

One of the things I love most about wedding weekends is seeing families who don’t get to spend much time together, reconnect, slow down, and simply enjoy being with one another.

This weekend, we had the privilege of watching two lives become one, surrounded by family, friends, laughter, and the kind of moments you can’t plan—they just happen.
Every celebration reminds us why we poured our hearts into The Scotsman. Not just to create a beautiful space, but to create a place where memories are made and stories begin.

There are a handful of businesses that make me smile every time I get to recommend them… and Hotel Hardware is one of them.
When couples ask where their family and friends should stay during their wedding weekend, this is one of the very first places I mention.
It’s not just because it’s beautiful (although it absolutely is). It’s because they’ve created an experience. From the thoughtfully restored historic building and beautifully designed rooms to the rooftop patio and welcoming atmosphere, it just feels special.
One of my favorite spots is The Bobcat Room. It’s the perfect place for family and friends to gather before the wedding festivities begin—a fun place to grab a handcrafted cocktail, catch up with loved ones, and soak in the excitement of the weekend. It’s the kind of place that turns a wedding day into a wedding weekend.
One of my favorite things about weddings at The Scotsman is watching them become an entire weekend instead of just one day. Guests wander downtown, enjoy everything Dayton has to offer, reconnect with family they haven’t seen in years, and make memories that extend far beyond the wedding itself.
What makes Hotel Hardware even more special are the owners (Pedraic & Jin’Ah). They are incredibly kind, genuinely accommodating, and truly care about every guest who walks through their doors. That kind of hospitality is something you don’t forget.
If you’re planning your wedding with us, I can’t recommend them enough. Your guests will be comfortable, well cared for, and they’ll get to experience one of the best parts of our little town.

This past weekend, the halls of The Scotsman were filled with love, laughter, happy tears, and the kind of moments that remind us exactly why we poured our hearts into restoring this beautiful old church.

Watching another couple begin their forever within these walls never gets old. From quiet moments in the suites, to the walk down the aisle beneath the stained glass, to the intimate gathering shared with their closest family and friends — every part of the day felt so special.

There is something incredibly meaningful about seeing a 150-year-old building come alive again with celebration, family, and love stories that will be remembered for generations.

To our sweet couple — thank you for trusting us with such an important day. It was an honor to be part of your beginning.
