One of your best investments in reef keeping is a refractometer. This unit is accurate to .001 and only needs calibration once a month, it’s considered the gold standard.

The cheap (Common) ones are accurate enough if you calibrate them bi-weekly but they drift very quickly in my daily use experience. Salinity is crucial to good coral health so stabilizing is removing one more variable from the equation.

20 yrs ago I custom fabricated a lobster for Coastal Sea Foods that outperformed all the commercially made units they had experience with (Marineland). I sort of forgot about my lobster experience...before CSF I serviced Rainbow Foods lobster and trout systems in store for over a decade. As it turns out I have an extensive background in lobsters! Now it's time to build another one utilizing Ozone technology, tremendous German skimming capability, etc. It's been awhile but I still have the chops! More to come....
