Meet Hamza Able, your Principal Timpani for the 25-26 Season. He was born in Casablanca, Morocco and grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. Hamza joined the Jacksonville Youth Orchestra at 14, served as Principal Timpani of the New York String Seminar, and was Principal Timpanist of the National Repertory Orchestra. He has also participated in the Eastern Music Festival and the Miami Music Festival. Hamza is an opera fan—his favorite composers are Strauss and Puccini. "For my favorite piece—it’s impossible to pick—I’ve been loving Elektra and Salome lately." When he's not playing, Hamza enjoys mixed martial arts, competitive e-sports, and fitness.

Give a warm welcome to Hamza!đź‘‹

Thank you to pianist Garrick Ohlsson for doing this interview with Keitaro Harada. The two chatted about the famed piano concerto that Garrick will perform with the Philharmonic this month, Rachmaninoff's Second. Watch the full interview now live on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/ubJTmI05SCQ

Mr. Ohlsson has established himself worldwide as a musician of magisterial interpretive and technical prowess. Winner of the 1970 Chopin International Piano Competition, Ohlsson has been long regarded as one of the world’s leading exponents of the music of Frédéric Chopin; however, he commands an enormous repertoire, which ranges over the entire piano literature.

In this special event, we celebrate Neal Gittleman and the Orchestra. The concert begins with three world premieres by area composers, longtime collaborators, and friends of the Philharmonic AK Jaquith, Steven Winteregg, and Michael Schelle. Then, in an homage to those onstage and in the audience, Maestro Gittleman leads the orchestra in Elgar’s Enigma Variations, a gorgeous work which Elgar wrote in honor of his own friends.

Join us for our celebration of Neal Gittleman. Get your tickets at https://bit.ly/46df9VR

Meet Zulfiya "Zulya" Bashirova, your Concertmaster for the 25-26 Season. She hails from Tashkent, Uzbekistan and was previously Assistant Principal Second violin in Toledo Symphony, Principal Second violin in Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and Assistant Concertmaster in Des Moines Metro Opera. She also performed with St. Louis Symphony, Naples Philharmonic, Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Symphony, and Detroit Opera Theater. Zulya's favorite thing about being a musician is being able to connect with people without words—just music. Her favorite composers include Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Shostakovitch, and Prokofiev, but if she had to choose just one piece of music as her favorite, it would be Brahms' Variation on a Theme by Haydn. When she's not playing, Zulya likes baking and trying new cuisines—"I love trying new food!"

Give a warm welcome to Zulya!đź‘‹
