In 1910, a group of Pendleton ranchers set out to raise money for something as ordinary as a city park, and what they built instead became one of the most famous rodeos on earth. 🤠

Herman Rosenberg and the rest of the founders incorporated it as the Northwestern Frontier Exhibition Association, but everybody just called it the Round-Up. From the earliest years, women trick riders were as much a part of the show as any cowboy. In 1912, a rider named Jillie Baldwin was photographed mid stunt on a galloping horse in front of a packed grandstand, full skirt flying, proof that Pendleton never treated its women riders as a sideshow. The rodeo opens every year with flag bearers carrying the American, Oregon, Canadian, and Umatilla Tribal flags together, a detail that says a lot about who actually built this event. 🐎

More than a century later, roughly fifty thousand people pack a stadium built for seventeen thousand every September. The Happy Canyon Indian Pageant and Wild West Show became Oregon's official outdoor pageant in 2017, and the Round-Up has been named the PRCA's Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year a dozen times since 2003. Not bad for a fundraiser that just wanted a park. 🎪

Nobody agrees on exactly where "Let 'er Buck" came from, but it has been Pendleton's rallying cry for well over a hundred years. Have you ever felt that stadium shake when the gate opens?

Entry Fee: $85
Added Money: $1,500 per event
Must have 6 or more entries in an event to receive the added money.
