Dayton Philharmonic Junior Strings Orchestra

Dayton Philharmonic Junior Strings Orchestra The Dayton Philharmonic Junior Strings provides music enrichment for string students in grades 4-8, preparing them for membership in DPYS and DPYO.

Dayton Philharmonic Junior Strings is the youngest of the three youth orchestras sponsored by the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance. DPJS began in the fall of 2014 and was created in response to requests from string teachers and music educators for an orchestra to encourage young string students who are not quite ready for DPYS or DPYO. Members of the Dayton Philharmonic Junior Strings are selected

through annual auditions open to all string students in grades 4–8. DPJS is conducted by Kara Camfield, who was born in Winnipeg and has dual U.S. and Canadian citizenship, moving to North Dakota at the age of 6. She began playing the violin at the age of 9 and also played the piano, clarinet, oboe, and saxophone. Kara joined the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2005-2006 season and became Assistant Principal Second Violin in September 2012. She is active in Orchestra’s SPARK program, and is an adjunct violin instructor at the University of Dayton. She also teaches violin at the Piano Preparatory School in Beavercreek. Kara earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Minot State University in North Dakota.

Hello all,

We are thrilled to announce the annual Giving Strings Concert on Saturday August 14th at 6:30pm on the 200 block of Ridgewood Avenue in Oakwood! We hope that you will be able to come and join us! We are working on gathering the music, and it will be available for pick-up within the next couple weeks. We will send a follow-up email saying when and where the music will be available.

This year's concert will benefit Hannah's Treasure Chest. Hannah's Treasure Chest is a nonprofit organization which enriches the lives of children in need by providing care packages of clothes, shoes, books, safety equipment and hygiene items including diapers through a network of nearly 50 partner agencies in Butler, Greene, Montgomery and Warren counties (https://hannahstreasure.org).

Patrick Reynolds will again be conducting. The music will feature a range of styles and difficulty levels. As usual, the orchestra is open to all who would like to participate. Rehearsals will be on the evenings of August 13th (required) and August 6th (optional for those who would like more help with the music).

We hope you will be available to join us and bring your friends! In past years, we had over 120 musicians in the orchestra. Spread the word to your friends and family. Perhaps this year will be even bigger!

Thank you for your past support of Giving Strings and we hope to see you again this year.
