Large text on screen reads, “How it feels to leave for the next rotation.” She walks confidently past the camera carrying her rescue tube, dramatically treating the short walk to her next guard rotation like a grand departure.

I feel like you’re just here for the diving board.

A staff member in a blue UC Davis Campus Recreation polo stands in front of palm trees before the video transitions to the pool’s diving area. A person enters the water near the diving boards, creating a large splash, and is then shown swimming underwater in the clear blue pool.

September Training! 🛟

Before welcoming everyone back to campus, our Aquatics staff spent some time on the pool deck brushing up on rescue skills, recertifying some of our lifeguards, and getting ready for another year of keeping our patrons safe!

Here’s to a great year ahead. Go Ags! 🐴

Someone had to hold it down in Davis all summer

Video Description: A short video filmed at the UC Davis Recreation Pool on a sunny day. A lifeguard runs toward the pool, jumps into the air, and does a jump before landing in the water with a large splash. Another lifeguard is seated in a guard chair nearby. On-screen text reads: “Not everyone can spend their summer in L.A. Someone had to hold it down at the UC Davis Rec Pool.”

POV: you are one minute late to rotation

Video Description: A vertical video at the UC Davis Recreation Pool shows a lifeguard standing on the pool deck in a blue UC Davis Aquatics shirt, sunglasses, whistle, and red rescue tube. The camera slowly moves closer as he looks toward the person filming. Text across the top of the video reads, “POV: you are one minute late to rotation.” The lifeguard’s increasingly unimpressed reaction plays into the joke about being late to relieve another guard from their position.

Get it right or get dropped!
Nothing like a little Aquatics trivia with some very refreshing consequences for a wrong answer.

Video Description: A video filmed on a sunny outdoor pool deck shows lifeguards playing a water-drop trivia game. Two lifeguards stand at the edge of the pool facing two other staff members, who hold their hands as questions are asked. Different pairs rotate through the game, with incorrect answers resulting in participants being dropped backward into the pool. On-screen text includes aquatics and lifeguarding trivia questions, including, “How many people does it take to properly use a BVM? (Bag Valve Mask).” The video captures the group laughing, answering questions, and splashing into the water throughout the game.

Aquatics has had so much fun working alongside Youth Programs and all of the amazing camps this summer! We couldn’t think of a better way to wrap up the season than with an end-of-summer party and a very competitive game of inner tube water polo!

Spoiler alert: Aquatics took the win 🏆 (but who’s keeping score?)

Thanks for such a fun summer, Youth Programs! Until next year!
